It's difficult in our modern food system to feed our families truly nutritious and safe food we trust. And if we care about the additional impacts of our choices, it becomes even harder.
We can help! When you buy your meat from our local farm, here is what your dollar buys you:
1. Nutritious and delicious food you can trust: Our pasture-and-forest-raised pork contains higher concentrations of beneficial fatty acids and antioxidants, healthier fats, and higher protein content. You can TASTE the difference!
2. Safe meat: We grow our healthy hogs right here on our farm where you can see our hogs and our practices (there are no antibiotics, hormones, growth stimulators or other additives). We use a local USDA inspected processor who does a fabulous job and all the meat comes to you frozen, shrink-wrapped, and labeled. Our meat hasn't been shipped anywhere and is handled with care only by us. And by pre-ordering for our actual butchering dates, you receive your meat immediately.
3. Animal Welfare: Have you ever watched one of the video documentaries about how these amazing, intelligent animals are abused in the conventional pork production system? Our hogs are ethically and humanely raised, on pasture and forest, where they have free range to roam, root, wallow and play. We rotate the herd every two-three weeks so that they are always on fresh land and have access to plentiful forage to supplement their GMO-free feed.
4. Care for the Earth: No manure lagoons here. No stench and health impacts on our neighbors. Our locally-grown Non-GMO feed grower doesn't pour Glyphosate on the fields (which can leach into community water supplies). Our pigs are rotated through our pasture and forest paddocks to increase wildlife habitat and regenerate the land.
5. Sustain our Local Economy: As your local farmer, wereturns money to the local economy AND our feed is grown by a local farmer and purchased from a local feed store, our piglets are bought from a neighbor breeder, and our pigs are processed by a local processor.
6. Preserve Farmland: I get a phone call every week from a developer wanting to buy our land. Farmland is disappearing fast. We can't preserve our farmland without your help. Preserving open spaces, scenic landscapes, and habitats for wildlife contributes to the overall environmental health of our community.
7. Bonus: Your purchase of pork from our farm ALSO allows us to continue offering Farm Camps and year-round learning opportunities for children, families, churches, and our community. Plus, as local farmers we are committed to supporting the work of local food pantries and other non-profit services!
It's time to pre-order your pork for September or October 2026 deliveries! We've been raising these nine hogs on pasture and in the forest since March (with lots of love from the kids who come to the farm).
Four are scheduled to go to the butcher in September and four in October and one to S.A.F.E. (Southern Alamance Family Empowerment).
