There are days that remind you just how grateful you are to live where you do.

This morning, at the first sign of smoke, neighbors called to alert us. Others dropped whatever they were doing and headed our way—some were already on the road before they even hung up the phone. Neighbors came armed with metal shovels and side-by-sides outfitted with water tanks and sprayers. Rural volunteer firefighters answered the call.

We’re doubly thankful the wind was light. Had it been a typical North Dakota windy day, the pasture we’d been saving for fall grazing could have burned for miles in any direction.

Pasture can grow back. Fences can be rebuilt. But neighbors who show up without being asked and volunteer firefighters who drop everything to help—that’s something you can’t put a price on. ❤️

Please join us in welcoming Tristan Becker of Wiota, Iowa, our 2026 intern. With a rural upbringing assisting on his family's cow-calf and row-crop operation, Tristan has developed a strong foundation in livestock management. He currently owns and manages a miniature Hereford cow-calf herd for beef production, with plans to expand into bull sales in the near future. Tristan is set to graduate from Southeast Community College with an associate's degree in applied science in livestock management and production. We wish him success as he embarks on the next phase of his ranching career and thank him for his hard work this summer!

Over the Independence Day holiday, we were pleased to host Tristan’s family, Chad, Melissa Becker and Riley, who farm and ranch outside of Wiota, Iowa.

It’s true we’ve been pretty quiet on this page as of late…and suffering the side effects of it. Between bull deliveries, multiple AI projects, fencing and general ranch upkeep, our social media battery needs a bit of a recharge
