We do a lot of conservation projects on our farm. Recently the Natural Resouce Conservation Service (NRCS) has become a partner in more of these projects. Today I needed to go sign some paperwork at the NRCS office, but my baby was a bit fussy and I was a bit worried how I’d manage with a newborn. Abby, our local U.S. Department of Agriculture NRCS conservation director was in the office today. She held my newborn and it made my visit so much smoother than I thought it would go. Thanks Abby, you’re the best!

I’ve dreamt about this moment for a long time. The bus stopped at the farm today for the first time in years.

When we bought this farm seven years ago, we were told it might have been developed if we hadn’t decided to farm it. It had been years since school children lived in our 100 year old farm house, and decades since the land had been actively farmed.

And now our oldest is starting kindergarten with a cabbage in her backpack that she grew to give to one of the teachers.

I studied rural revitalization and the repopulation of farms in my classes in college. And now we are living it.
