Every great bottle starts in the vineyard 🍇

Meet Pedro, our vineyard manager who knows every row, every vine, and every detail that goes into growing our fruit. Pedro's been with Alma Rosa for over two years, bringing more than 20 years of experience from Sea Smoke Vineyard before that. From pruning and irrigation in the spring to spraying, weeding, and managing the vines through harvest, he does it all. His favorite spot on the Estate is Block 11. The trickiest to handle are probably Caracol or the Chardonnay blocks. "Every day is different," Pedro says. "I'm proud of the work we've done to continually improve the quality of the vines, it's a pleasure working this property through every season."

As the sun begins to set on harvest there's a quiet kind of pride that settles over the Estate. The grapes are in, the cellar is full, and another season of Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir and Chardonnay is underway.

What makes a Sta. Rita Hills harvest so distinct? This valley runs east–west instead of north–south. A rare setup that funnels cool Pacific fog straight into the vines, just 10 miles from the ocean. Cold nights in the 40s and 50s, warm sunny days in the 70s and 80s. It all adds up to one of the longest growing seasons in California, letting our Pinot Noir and Chardonnay ripen slowly while holding onto that signature acidity. Our soils don't hurt either: earth full of ancient seashells gives the w**es their chalky, saline edge.
