Somerdale Cold Cuts reopened Thursday, less than two weeks after copper thieves stripped refrigeration equipment from the South Jersey deli, causing roughly $20,000 in food losses and forcing a temporary shutdown.

Owner Johnny “Gabagool” Aubry announced the reopening in a video posted to Facebook, saying repairs to the deli’s refrigeration system were complete.

“Welcome box is cold. Deli case is cold,” he said.

The family-owned deli has served the Somerdale community since 1976. During the shutdown, customers and neighboring businesses rallied around the shop, with some offering refrigerated storage space to help save inventory.

Aubry said he spent the day making chicken salad, tuna salad, crab salad and roast beef to restock the deli ahead of reopening, though some items may still be limited.

“I can’t wait to see my customers and I can’t wait to see my deli girls behind that counter where they belong,” he said.

Aubry also thanked supporters who followed the story on social media.

“I read every one of the comments on Facebook, every one of the comments on TikTok,” he said. “Thank you for the encouragement. Thank you for all the nice words that you have said. I really appreciate it.”

The theft remains under investigation. No arrests have been announced.
