Is it ok if I feed to sleep, rock my baby, only let them nap on the go etc, etc?

Lots of questions from exhausted parents looking for reassurance they are doing the right thing. Firstly, there is no RIGHT or WRONG way to settle your baby. When our babies are born, we do whatever it takes to get through those sleep deprived nights. As they grow and thrive, if what you're currently doing is working for your family, then go for it!

If you do decide you want things to change or your existing methods are no longer working. This is a time to reach out and seek support.

So until then the answer is...YES, it is ok ❤️

Look at this little face 🥰❤️🥰

This is Eira, one of my most recent clients. Mum came to me to ask for advice with Eira’s early starts, help to drop the night feed, and support to move naps from the pram to the cot.

From creating a personal plan, followed by mum and dads commitment for change, Eira is now taking naps in her cot, sleeping through the night and waking at an acceptable hour in the morning.

What a super star ⭐️ Well done 💜 you guys nailed it 💪

☀️ SPRING IS COMING! ☀️

Clocks are going forward this weekend! If you’re a little worried about your child struggling with the change, gradually bring bedtime, nap and food times by 15 minutes earlier each day to allow their bodies time to adjust.⏰

Plenty of natural light exposure and fresh air in the morning. Maintain a consistent bedtime routine. And if you don’t already have one, invest in a black out blind to keep out that morning light until you’re ready for your little one to wake ⛅️

When your little one begins to roll, the swaddle has to go, but what next?

Big thumbs up to a sleeping bag, also referred to as a grobag or sleep sack. Whatever you call them, they have great benefits for your baby or toddler;

✔️ A positive sleep association, helps signal to baby it’s time for bed.
✔️ Maintains temperature throughout the night as unlike a blanket, they can’t kick it off so won’t wake up from becoming cold.
✔️ Prevents baby getting their feet stuck in between the cot rails.
✔️ Discourages toddlers from attempting to climb out of the cot as they can’t lift one leg as high.

Sleeping bags come in various togs so choose a sleeping bag appropriate to the temperature of your baby’s room.

Follow brand sleep safety guidelines to ensure your sleeping bag is weight or age appropriate.

If you do opt for a blanket, ensure it is breathable and firmly tucked in. Place baby at the foot of the cot so they can’t wriggle down, this will reduce the risk of the blanket covering their face as they sleep. 💜

With Spring around the corner, if you haven’t done so already, it’s time to invest in a black out blind for your little ones room. Even the tiniest slither of early morning light coming through the window can be enough to signal to our brain it’s time to wake up. Keep the room DARK DARK DARK because who really enjoys starting the day at 5am? 🥱

Did you know your little one has a natural dip in energy at varying times throughout the day. These are known as biological nap windows 😴

The sleepy hormone melatonin increases, cortisol (the wake up hormone) dips and body temperature lowers. All of these factors help support sleep. To achieve easier and more restorative naps, embrace what their little bodies want to do naturally and work naps and bedtime to start within these timings;

⭐️ Morning 9am-10am
⭐️ Lunch 12pm - 2pm
⭐️ Bedtime 6pm - 7pm

I still have spaces left on my volunteer program, pop a message below or tag a friend who you think might need support with their little one ❤️

I’m definitely not the best mum in the world, I’d like to think I’m not the worst. But I’m their mum. And to them I’m their world. 🌍💜

My reason for starting my sleep studies was to help other families who felt the level of sleep deprivation I felt with my first born. I could barely function, I was anxious, exhausted. Despite reading the internet inside and out, I still couldn’t work out which way to turn to get the sleep we all needed. 😴

This post is to give other families feeling this way HOPE, those long nights won’t last, there is light at the end of the tunnel. I’m going to continue to post tips for you, share my knowledge and help in anyway I can.

Ps. This post was also to show you my pretty Mother’s Day flowers. Even 3 year olds are pretty good at choosing a good bouquet 💐

I read somewhere recently being a parent is like trying to fold a fitted sheet....you really don’t know how to do it.

But alas, we all do our best. I’m cheering for the special mums out there today, the single mums, our own mums, the struggling mums, the surrogate mums, the heavenly mums, the dads who are also mums, we all know how tough some days can be, be grateful for the tiny wins and be proud that every day when you wake, you put someone else’s happiness and well-being before your own. We’re all pretty special 💐 HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY x
