We have several flocks available, a rooster and 2-7 hens available with each. All were hatched out this May and started laying in September. All flocks will come with a rooster, no hens only. It’s processing day! This is the smallest amount of birds we have processed so we should be able to get them done in a few hours. Crossing my fingers anyways. We got our meat chicks from Valley Farms Hatchery. All 16 have made it to processing day.

Best day of the week is lessons day! I have really enjoyed getting back in the saddle and getting to do it with my boys and watch them fall in love with horses like I did as a kid.

Cleaning up the garden a little today and I harvested some of the ginger we have been growing. I love the color of fresh ginger with the pinks and creams. I’m going to let it dry out in the house then grate it up and freeze it in cubes so I have it available when I need it.

My oldest first chicken show was this morning! He did so good getting his chickens ready for this show. He got 3rd in showmanship and his chickens took 2nd and 3rd place in breed class. We couldn’t be prouder of how well he did and has worked to get here.

Why is he so stunning??? This little guy is one of our grow outs this year and he just keeps getting more and more stunning with age. He was a black chick, then started to get a little white on it, now has the red coming in. This is why I love keeping some of our chicks each year just to see what colors we get.

Not sure how well this is going to work but the honey bees are going through food so fast I figured I would give this a try. Hopefully they find it and this works better than using the mason jar feeder.
