The “Droste effect” is the technique of creating a recursive image or a picture inside of itself. Examples include Land O’Lakes Butter packaging, many of M.C. Escher’s spiral stair lithographs, and even scenes of recursive cityscapes in Inception or Dr. Strange.​​​​​​​​

Ella Dorado hadn’t heard from Amarillo “Rillo” since their magical Mario Kart meet-cute at Portico nearly two years ago (classic minifig ghosting). The sting had softened with time, but not disappeared. So, one afternoon she ventured solo to Portico for a beer, ready to rewrite the story.

On her way in, she spotted the "Pollinator Posse” doing Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon moves in the patio greenery. Intrigued, she wandered over… and there he was. Rillo. Planting flowers like an EcoNaut himself.

Turns out, planting pollinator-friendly perennials was his love language. After a flirty trowel exchange and some mutual mulching, they toasted with a fresh pour of Painted Porch inside. The spark was back.

Believe it or not Somerville Porchfest is next Saturday! We’re bringing back our Battle of the Bands Porchfest Afterparty with our pals slash neighbors-one-block-down-the-street Satellite!

Come grab some sustenance from a long day of bopping around the hood and keep the Porchfest party going starting at 4pm!

The schedule below includes one hour short sets by a variety of local groups, going back and forth between our two taprooms:

4:00 - 5:00pm @ Satellite: Tea for Two
5:00 - 6:00pm @ Portico: Done Gone
6:00 - 7:00pm @ Satellite:
