Green City Growers

Green City Growers We help you farm. Anywhere. PRODUCTION. EDUCATION. INSTALLATION. VISION.

GREEN CITY GROWERS are passionate and experienced organic farmers who specialize in year-round raised bed urban farms for yards, rooftops, decks and unused lots. We maintain production-level urban farms for hotels, grocers and restaurants around Greater Boston, Like the rooftop farm at Whole Foods in Lynnfield. We pioneer farming education programs for businesses, municipalities, home-owners and s

chools throughout Greater Boston. We design every farm and garden to spec, build from sustainable materials and install each each organic urban farm, corporate or residential, large or small, with precision and care. We envision a world where rooftops and vacant lots become common and productive places to grow food - an urban agricultural revolution for a healthier nation. People from all walks of life, living in urban areas, will have access to a network of sustainable urban farms, fueling personal and environmental health, and local food sustainability.

As we start off 2026, we’re filled with gratitude and pride for all the incredible work accomplished at Green City Growers in the past year. A huge thank you to our dedicated partners, community collaborators, and everyone who supports our mission, we wouldn’t be here without you!

We are beyond lucky to bring the magic of food-growing to so many different communities, from schools and multi-family housing to corporate offices and beyond. Each garden we tend, each partnership we grow, and each person we inspire is a reminder of the impact we can make on the local food system when we work together.

Here’s to another year of cultivating connections and growing with purpose! 🎉🌿

Earlier this fall, we installed 5 units at a biopharma company located in Cambridge. They were looking for an office amenity that would contribute to green building points and create real impact by providing employees with fresh produce.

After a couple of weeks of growth, their lobby was filled with fresh herbs that employees were invited to harvest directly from the wall. This first program was a success! Every last leaf was harvested off the wall, and everyone left with a bundle of new veggies to try. Excited to continue growing the urban ag movement close to home! 🥬 🌿

From the heart of downtown Boston to neighborhoods of the South Shore, our gardens are making lasting community impacts one seed at a time!

This summer, we followed two of our farmers out to some of our and multi-family sites to celebrate the joys of connecting over freshly grown produce. Whether it’s attending an indoor hydroponics harvest event or planting seeds in our raised beds out in the sun, we love connecting with our participants and hearing their stories from the garden. Cheers to continuing to grow together and cultivating their communities!☀️🥬

🌟Site Spotlight: Caldwell! GCG runs a thriving rooftop garden at this multi-family residence building in Lynn. Rooftop growing is one of the many ways agriculture can be integrated into urban building designs.

This amenity creates a new space for social interaction beyond the lobby and the mailroom. Farming allows residents to connect over a common goal, such as maintaining a specific bed each week or harvesting a new crop. Our garden beds cross generational divides and create spaces for connection, learning, and growth!

🌟Site Spotlight: Somerville Public Library!

Did you know the Somerville Public Library has community garden beds? Our public-facing garden sites are truly special spaces that bring learning, growth, and community to life.

“The Somerville Public Library continues to delight in our partnership with Green City Growers,” said Kerry O’Donnell, Head of Adult Services at the library. “Patrons of all ages enjoyed attending workshops this year to learn about gardening and get tips on growing as they got their hands dirty in our garden beds. We worked together to produce a wide array of crops - some new, some perennial favorites. As the Library staff member overseeing our garden, I can’t wait to see how this partnership will continue to grow and thrive in future years.”

We’re so inspired by the passion of the library staff and community memebers who make this space flourish!

As our production farmers wrap up their seasons, we wanted to take a look back at some of the amazing harvests they had this year! From peppers to pumpkins, our farmers are producing tens of thousands of pounds of food for corporate kitchens and local communities. Cheers to another productive season! 🫑🍅🥒🧄

The garden is buzzing with learning at Samuel Adams Elementary School! Our tiny farmers have been hard at work mimicking bees and exploring the magic of pollination. They’re collecting pollen from one flower and transferring it to another, just like real bees do!

Hand pollination is a technique many urban farmers use to support pollinators, especially on plants like zucchini, to help it bear fruit. Using a Q-tip to transfer pollen, students can see the process in action. This hands-on learning experience helps them better understand how pollination works and how it keeps our gardens bee-utiful! 🐝🌸

We celebrated the changing of the seasons in style with our annual Fall Harvest Party, and it was a blast! Every year, we celebrate with our farmers, partners, and friends. From school and government officials to property managers and fellow growers, we gather together to connect over a good meal and uplift all those who are moving the needle towards a more local food system.

This year, we were especially honored to present the Gus Schumacher Award to the Friends of the Boston Schoolyards. This group, founded in 2016, defines what it means to be a true champion of school gardens. Every day, we’re inspired by the way they share the joy of growing your own food. Their energy and commitment have ensured that BPS students have access to green, sustainable, and safe places to play, explore, and learn.

Thank you to everyone who made this event possible! We can’t wait to continue growing together for seasons to come! 🥕🎊🥬

Did you know that there is a mini Fenway Farms at the Boston Children’s Museum?✨

In partnership with the Boston Red Sox, this 1,100-square-foot mini farm opened to the public in 2022, introducing thousands of families visiting the museum to the wonders of growing their own food. Last week, we invited folks from the BCM to tour the real thing! They got to see what it takes to manage a farm nearly double the size of the one at the museum. As we enter into a new season, we are so grateful for these partnerships and can’t wait to see all that we will grow together next year! 🫛🍅
