Staghorn or Elkhorn Ferns (Platycerium sp.) are marvels of the plant world! As Epiphytes (air plants) they grow high in the canopy upon another tree’s branch.
Their large, flat, shield fronds grow upward to catch leaf debris and water. Fertile, horn shaped, leaf fronds extend outward, spreading spores to the wind, where they will drift until they land upon a new branch and grow.
Our Platycerium are securely mounted to a wooden board, ready to be hung on a wall, fence, arbor or living tree!
This video captures the enthusiasm that Charles is known for as he shares how and why these led him down his path to plants! The last slide shows young and established Epiphytes so you can get a better idea of how big these can get!
