Staghorn or Elkhorn Ferns (Platycerium sp.) are marvels of the plant world! As Epiphytes (air plants) they grow high in the canopy upon another tree’s branch.

Their large, flat, shield fronds grow upward to catch leaf debris and water. Fertile, horn shaped, leaf fronds extend outward, spreading spores to the wind, where they will drift until they land upon a new branch and grow.

Our Platycerium are securely mounted to a wooden board, ready to be hung on a wall, fence, arbor or living tree!

Camellias are winter’s quiet show-offs. When much of the garden is resting, Camellia japonica begins to open—layered, almost architectural blooms set against deep, glossy evergreen foliage.

The Nuccio’s cultivars (likely what you’re seeing here) are especially admired for their perfectly formed, formal-double flowers. Each bloom is composed of tightly layered petals arranged almost like porcelain. These varieties were developed by the Nuccio family in Southern California, whose camellia breeding shaped many of the cultivars still grown today.

Camellias also have a long rhythm: their buds form months before opening, often developing through summer and fall before blooming in late winter. When they finally flower, it feels less like a seasonal bloom and more like the garden revealing something it has been quietly preparing all year.
