Fifty years after the Judgment of Paris, UC Davis brought together 150 Cabernet Sauvignons from the world’s great regions. Only 12 reached the final round. Viña Cobos’ Hobbs Estate was the only Argentine wine among them.

A recognition we are deeply honored by — made all the more meaningful knowing it was at UC Davis where Paul earned his Master’s in Viticulture and Enology. When we planted in Agrelo, we believed in what that land could produce. This wine expresses the depth, elegance, and precision that form part of Paul’s vision and the work of our entire team. 🍷

An evening at the Bosch Palace in Buenos Aires. Last week, Ambassador Peter Lamelas hosted Paul Hobbs, the Viña Cobos team, and distinguished guests at his official residence to celebrate a new partnership between Viña Cobos and Casa Pirque. The Bosch Palace, home to the United States Ambassador to Argentina, provided a meaningful setting to mark this milestone. The partnership enhances Viña Cobos’ distribution capabilities, expanding our reach in key markets and bringing our wines to new audiences who appreciate what Argentine terroir can express.

Guests tasted wines from Viña Cobos and Paul Hobbs Winery throughout the evening while celebrating the collaboration ahead. Thank you to Ambassador Lamelas and all who joined us to mark this special occasion.

Under Mendoza’s night sky, harvest is underway across our Viña Cobos estates. From the century-old vines of Zingaretti in Tupungato to the high-altitude parcels of Chañares in Los Árboles and our original Hobbs Estate in Agrelo, each site tells a different story of terroir.

Hand-picked by our team of more than 30 skilled harvesters, every cluster is selected to preserve the character that makes each vineyard distinct. Rocky soils. Alluvial deposits. Ancient rootstock. These are the details that define wines reflective of the Uco Valley and Luján de Cuyo.

Yacoubian Hobbs Dry White Wine from Vayots Dzor, Armenia. Grown at over 4,000 feet in rocky soils, our 2022 vintage is 100% Voskehat, the “golden berry,” an indigenous variety known for its longevity and complex aromatics.

High altitude provides remarkable freshness. Stainless steel fermentation and aging preserve the purity of the fruit and the mineral character that defines this terroir.

“The soul of a wine is when it speaks to a place.” Dry White Wine does exactly that: expressing the ancient terroir of Vayots Dzor through focused, modern winemaking.

The next month brings tastings from coast to coast, showcasing our winemaking from Napa Valley to Argentina. Vinous Icons in New York features our wines at the grand tasting with Director of Winemaking Jeremiah Timm presenting the ‘23 Napa Valley Cabernet seminar (Feb 27-28). Great Wines of the World continues with Paul Hobbs Winery and ALH pouring in NYC (March 2-3), Viña Cobos in Miami (March 5), then both Paul Hobbs and Viña Cobos in San Francisco where Paul joins the Global Cabernet seminar (March 8). From Napa Valley’s structured elegance to Mendoza’s high-altitude intensity, these events offer the chance to experience what defines each terroir. Looking forward to sharing these wines and stories in person across these incredible cities.

While our vineyards in the United States turn to winter pruning, the growing season continues in Mendoza at Viña Cobos. Veraison marks a turning point in Luján de Cuyo and the Valle de Uco, where the influence of altitude, soil, and mountain climate begins to define the profile of the wines to come.

Different seasons, shared intent, rooted in place.

Godello from Ribeira Sacra. One of Galicia’s most expressive indigenous varieties, grown on steep terraced vineyards carved into the hillsides above the Sil River.

The 2023 vintage captures what drew us to this corner of northwestern Spain: mineral-driven precision, vibrant citrus, and a saline edge that speaks directly to the region’s slate-rich soils. Golden-hued with delicate stone fruit and silky texture.

was founded to explore the potential of Spain’s ancient terroirs through a modern lens. Godello shows what’s possible when old world tradition meets focused, terroir-driven winemaking.

“West of the County II,” an original oil painting by Cristina Hobbs, is an homage to the view from our Sonoma County winery, looking toward the mountains and the fog lifting off the Pacific. This coastal veil tempers our vines and sets the rhythm of each growing season.

As we reflect on another year devoted to excellence in the vineyard and cellar across our projects around the globe, we are deeply grateful for your fellowship and support. Wishing you a joyful holiday season and a new year filled with peace, inspiration, and prosperity. - The Paul Hobbs Family
