Toje Wines

Toje Wines From the steep slopes of the Mosel Valley to Sonoma’s untamed coastline, what began as a dream became an ever-changing, tangible craft.

We were here less than thirty minutes, and you could feel it before anyone said a word.
The soil gave a little underfoot — soft, worked, breathing. Cover crops between the rows instead of bare dirt. Butterflies. Bugs we didn’t recognize. The kind of quiet hum that only shows up when nothing’s being sprayed into silence.
That’s what organic farming looks like up close. Not a label on a bottle — a whole ecosystem deciding to stick around. Diversity above the ground usually means life below it, and life below it is where good Riesling starts.
A new Sonoma site we can’t wait to tell you more about. For now, we’re just glad places like this still exist.

Our most important work happens when we’re unreachable.
Climbing trees, sleeping in our tent, hiding from the sandstorm on the beach and opening a bottle to talk about the future out loud.
Some conversations only happen when there’s nowhere else to be.
Peek into our weekend in the far northwest Sonoma Coast.

They say the way you do one thing is the way you do everything.

For us, that means slowly. Intentionally. Thoughtfully. It’s how we make wine — and mostly, it’s how we try to live.
Mostly, because some days we’re paying late fees and missing every deadline there is to miss when you’re doing everything yourself.

A small wine company has a great way of keeping you completely humbled. But last night didn’t feel like that. Kids and gardening ask only for your time and your presence — both free, both unhurried.

A good reminder to shift our mindset before the weekend.

Raising Kids, growing tomatoes, making sourdough, aging Pinot Noir...we’re not in a hurry with any of it.

Our 2023 Chardonnay is nearly gone.

It’s taken almost two years to get here — and right now, it’s exactly where we wanted it. The minerality has found its footing. Everything has softened and settled into something that feels complete.

Chardonnay person or not — drop a 🥂 or a 👎 below. Curious where you land.

One of our favorite ways to welcome guests is with small handmade details that make people feel genuinely cared for.

We’ve been making these simple goat milk soaps lately for guests, gatherings, and little gifts around the home.

Comment “SOAP” and we’ll send you the recipe we use. 🤍

2 months until we’re back on the Mosel.

Back to Johannes’ hometown, where the streets, vineyards, and river bends still hold so much of his story. The place where his family still gathers around the table, where lifelong friends still stop by unannounced, and where slowing down is part of the week (no lawn-mowing here on Sundays, folks).

For us, these trips have become less about “vacation” and more about returning to something grounding. Long dinners outside, children running freely, morning bakery walks, vineyard conversations, and the reminder that some of the best parts of life are the simplest ones.

So many pieces of Toje were shaped there long before the first bottle ever existed. Counting down the days. 🇩🇪

To the mothers and caregivers at our table,

Motherhood has made me realize how much of life is shaped by the quiet things no one applauds. The repetition, the patience, the comforting, the apologizing, the trying again after hard moments. The deep love woven into ordinary days - our two girls are the greatest teachers I’ve ever known.

And honestly, part of me has always felt that celebrating Mother’s Day feels a little unnatural in a way, because nurturing others is something so many people were wonderfully made to do. For me, motherhood is not one day on the calendar. It is every day.

I think often about the mothers who shaped Johannes and me, and how much of who we are today came from being loved deeply, guided gently, and welcomed home again and again. That influence reaches far beyond childhood. It becomes the way we gather, the way we care for people, the way we build a table of our own.

One of the greatest gifts has been experiencing life again through a child’s eyes. The wonder, the curiosity, the excitement over the smallest things. Motherhood has brought a refreshing silliness into our lives, and reminded us not to take everything so seriously.

Our children do not need perfection from us. They need love, vulnerability, warmth, and people willing to keep showing up wholeheartedly.

Today also belongs to the caregivers, nurturers, teachers, grandmothers, aunts, friends, and those who mother others with or without children of their own. Thank you for the tenderness and care you pour into the people around you.

We hope today gives you a moment to slow down and feel appreciated.

Happy Mother’s Day,
Jenny, Johannes, Patrick & the Toje family

Part 3 | Deep Roots at Gap’s Crown

These vines are now 20+ years old. The canes may grow a little shorter these days, but underground, the story is different. The roots have spent two decades pushing deeper into the rocky soils of the Petaluma Gap, finding resilience where younger vines are still searching.

That balance shows up in the glass. Less about power and more about depth, detail, and confidence.

Every vintage begins here, with observation long before harvest.

The Petaluma Gap has a way of humbling you like that.

“We’re so glad you’re here” can be easy to say.

We’ve always felt it should be a profound feeling the moment you arrive.

A place set with intention and a small gesture waiting for you. Details that aren’t for everyone—just for you.

Not to impress, but to express how grateful we are that you’re at the table. That’s the kind of hospitality we believe in.

If you’ve been to our table, you know.
If you haven’t, we’d love to welcome you.

What’s one small thing you do to make someone feel at home?

We spent a couple years on the waitlist for this.

Places like this aren’t open to the public. Access comes slowly, over time, and it changes how you see the vineyard once you’re in.
