Love this time of year in the vineyards!

Lentamente, qua e là, le viti si stanno risvegliando dal loro torpore invernale ed alcune di loro iniziano a manifestare il caratteristico "pianto della vite"..😃

Slowly here and there the vines are awakening from their winter torpor and some of them are starting to show the characteristic "cry of the vine"..😃

This is just one example of the incredibly manual-intensive efforts required to stay pesticide-free at Aurelio Settimo S.S.A.! Tiziana explained during our recent visit, this is important not only for the customer, but for health of those working in the vineyards — primarily her and her family!

Her father and grandfather never used pesticides, and she carries on that important tradition, despite the extra time and effort it requires.

Pratichiamo la confusione sessuale per combattere e controllare i parassiti che danneggiano la vite. Attraverso appositi diffusori che si installano sulle piante,si diffonde il feromone sessuale che emette la femmina,in misura tale da impedire al maschio di localizzarla e di fecondarla..

We practice mating disruption to fight and control the parassites that damage the vine.Through special diffusers that are installed on the vine plants, the sexual pheromone emittes by the female is diffused, to such an extent as to prevent the male from locating and fertilizing it..

It’s a small family operation at Villa Forano and they’re doing great things in the Marche (a highly underrated Italian wine region)! Producing beautiful reds and an awesome Ribona — a cool white wine from a native grape — we’re always impressed with the quality of their wines when we get the chance to taste.

What can we say about Barolo?? It’s one of the most remarkable reds in the wine world, and Aurelio Settimo S.S.A. is one of the very best! Always a treat to taste the new vintage, but we felt extra lucky to try the 2016 and 2012 Rocche dell’Annunziata. The ‘12 is… perfection! (If you have a bottle, now is the time!)

And though we missed you, Tiziana, our night out with the Settimo crew is one of our favorite Vinitaly traditions!

If only every day could start with bubbles! 🥂We loved catching up with Roberta and Gianluca of Frassinelli vini e spumanti this morning, and tasting the new (exceptional) vintage of their DOCG Proseccos. These are beautiful, elegant wines that express the character of the Glera grape perfectly!
