🍝 Lunch at Nonnina in Chicago

Lunch at Nonnina hits a different gear than dinner — in the best way. The room feels brighter, the pace is calmer, and there’s this steady flow of people who clearly treat it as their neighborhood spot. It has that lived‑in comfort you only get from a place that knows exactly what it’s doing, especially midday when the energy is more “let’s enjoy this break” than “big night out.”

The menu leans classic Italian with a Chicago personality, and everything feels thoughtfully put together without trying to be flashy. It’s the kind of lunch where you can settle in, enjoy real cooking, and still walk out ready to take on the rest of the day.

🕰️ Midday Atmosphere

At lunch, Nonnina feels like a place where regulars know exactly which table they want. There’s a steady hum of conversation, a mix of business lunches and casual meetups, and a staff that moves with the confidence of a team that’s been doing this a long time. It’s warm without being sentimental, polished without being stiff — the kind of hospitality that feels natural rather than staged.

📍 Quick Notes

Neighborhood: River North

Lunch Hours: Weekdays only

Best For: Pasta cravings, relaxed midday meals, catching up with friends, or a treat‑yourself lunch that won’t knock you out for the rest of the day

Bonus: They’ve got a deli next door for quicker lunches if you’re on the move.

Whenever I’m in Chicago, I’m on the hunt for something that makes me stop and say, “Okay… THIS is worth the trip.” And on this visit, Egg Tuck in Downtown Chicago definitely delivered.

Tucked right into the energy of downtown Chicago Egg Tuck brings its Los Angeles breakfast magic to the Midwest—and trust me, it fits right in. I’ve seen the hype online, so I had to check it out for myself… and WOW. The moment I unwrapped that sandwich, I knew we were in for something good.
We grabbed a couple of their signature sandwiches, and they do not play around. Those soft, cloud‑like scrambled eggs, the rich brioche, the perfectly seasoned proteins, and their house sauces that bring that Korean‑inspired twist—it all comes together like a warm, buttery hug. I swear, halfway through my first bite I was already planning what I’d order next time.

And then… the fluffy egg tots.
Listen—these deserve their own spotlight. Crispy on the outside, pillowy and eggy on the inside, totally addictive. If you go and don’t order these, I’m telling you right now… go back and do it properly.

A Little Backstory

Egg Tuck started out in Los Angeles, focusing on elevating breakfast sandwiches with ridiculously fluffy eggs and globally inspired flavors. Now that they’ve expanded to Chicago, we get to enjoy that same West Coast creativity with a Midwest edge. It’s fast, it’s fun, it’s flavorful—basically everything you want in a breakfast or brunch stop.

If you’re exploring downtown, need a quick breakfast, or you’re just an egg‑lover like me, put Egg Tuck on your must‑eat list. I’m already excited to go back and try more.

I didn’t used to be an oyster person.

In fact, if you’d told me six months ago that I’d be voluntarily ordering raw oysters — and enjoying them — I probably would’ve laughed.

But here we are.

A glass of wine in hand. A chilled platter of oysters in front of me. A table full of friends passing small plates back and forth. And honestly? It just works.

Nova’s in downtown Goshen brings a fresh energy to the area — the kind of spot that feels intentional without feeling overdone. It’s comfortable but polished. Elevated but not intimidating. You can dress it up for date night or just settle in for a relaxed evening catching up with friends.

The oysters are bright and clean — the kind that convert skeptics (apparently). Paired with a crisp white wine, it’s simple and satisfying in all the right ways.

And then there are the shareables. I’m always a fan of menus that encourage the table to interact a little — reaching across, tasting a bite of something you didn’t order, discovering a new favorite together. Nova’s leans into that beautifully. Flavor-forward dishes, seasonal touches, thoughtful preparation — everything feels curated but still approachable.

Downtown Goshen keeps evolving, and it’s exciting to see restaurants that add depth to the local dining scene. Nova’s isn’t just somewhere to eat — it’s somewhere to linger.

Good wine. Fresh oysters. Plates to pass. Conversations that stretch longer than expected.

That’s a win in my book.

Last week I finally made it to Shaw’s Crab House in Chicago — and it absolutely delivered for a classic seafood night in the city. 🦞🦪

Here’s what I ordered:

🦞 New England Lobster Roll
Maine lobster, Hellmann’s mayonnaise, brioche roll, celery, chives, served with French fries.

This was everything you want in a proper New England-style roll — chilled lobster, lightly dressed so the sweetness shines. The brioche was buttery and soft without overpowering the lobster, and the celery + chives added just the right amount of freshness and crunch. Simple. Classic. Done right.

🦪 Oysters on the Half Shell (Dozen)

Cold, briny, and beautifully fresh. There’s something about that first squeeze of lemon over an oyster that feels like an experience all on its own. Clean, ocean-forward flavor — exactly what you expect from a long-standing Chicago seafood institution.

🍰 Shaw’s Dessert Sampler (Shared)
Mini key lime pie, mini chocolate cake, mini crème brûlée, and vanilla ice cream.

If you can’t pick just one dessert, this is the move. The key lime pie was bright and tangy, the chocolate cake rich and indulgent, and that crack on the crème brûlée? Perfect finish to the meal.

Overall: timeless seafood house energy, polished service, and a great spot for a celebration or a date night in Chicago.

Have you been? What’s your go-to order?
