Purple Porch Food Co-op Since then we have evolved into first a weekly farmers market and then into a full service grocery store, deli and market in downtown South Bend.

Hours: Mon-Sat 8am-8pm | Sun 10am-6pm Purple Porch Co-op was established in 2009 when a few friends sat on a painted purple front porch and dreamed of making the food system more transparent and fair. Our storefront opened in February 2014. Everyone is welcome to come in and check out the bounty of local and organic foods. Stop by to grab breakfast, lunch, or dinner; pick up prepared foods for sharing at home or at work; drink our locally roasted coffee; buy our local and organic/fair trade products, including produce, dairy, bulk items, and grocery. Our prepared deli items are made from scratch using the high-quality local and organic ingredients for sale on the nearby shelves. Visit the Farmers Market on Wednesdays from 5 – 7pm and meet the producers. Whatever your reasons for seeking a co-op—just looking for good food; concerned about fair treatment of producers, animals, the earth, and workers; preferring organic food for health; passionate for economic and food justice; seeking a community and welcoming space—we have it in our store.

💪 Soooo when we say our team goes above and beyond for the co-op, we're not kidding!! 💪

Pictured: Assistant Manager Becky on the roof of our walk-in cooler wielding an unidentified tool trying to knock our freezer into shape. (And...we have it on good authority that she's even been spotted up there at least once with a hair dryer to melt some built up ice!) 🤣

Also pictured: Front Team Member Emily spending time on a ladder today getting her upper body workout in. We finally have a ceiling full of bright lights again!! 💡

🍈 Yesterday, we tagged along with our Produce Manager Anna to Nektar Flow Farms for the last of the season pawpaw pickup! Here’s some of what we learned on our adventure:

💪 Nektar Flow Farms is one of the largest pawpaw farms not only in Indiana or the Midwest, but the entire country!
🤯 Did you know.. there are over 72 different pawpaw cultivars (varieties)!?
🌱 Nektar Flow Farms is growing Shenandoah, Potomac, Lehman and Susquehanna cultivars, to name just a few.
🧪 They’re also growing cultivars from Kentucky State University, and some fun “open source” experiments too!
🇨🇦 People travel from all over the US and even Canada to pick up pallets of Nektar Flow Farms pawpaws!
👀 To keep up with such high demand, Nektar Flow Farms planted an entire second orchard last year— keep an eye out for the 2028 season, that’s when the new orchard should be ready for first harvest!
