Weekend plan: sarmale.

Romania's most-loved dish is cabbage rolls — pickled cabbage leaves wrapped around pork, rice and onion, layered with smoked meat and slow-simmered until tender.

The hardest part is preparing the leaves. Skip it: our cabbage leaves in brine come ready to roll.
Serve with sour cream, hot polenta and a chili pepper on the side. Save this for Sunday.

October is National Pork Month in the US — and Romania has been perfecting smoked pork for generations.

Build a Romanian smokehouse board:
Slănină afumată — smoked, cured pork belly, sliced thin
Tradiții Românești smoked pork shoulder — naturally smoked, ready to eat
Cârnați uscați olteneşti — dried smoked sausage, now on sale
Add red onion, crusty bread and Romanian sweet mustard. Masa e gata!

Read the label, not the front of the bottle.

Left: a typical “apple juice drink” — water first, then sugar and flavorings, with juice somewhere in the middle.

Right: Râureni apple juice from Romanian apples. One ingredient: 100% apple juice (from concentrate). No added sugar.

Small swap, real difference. Which one is in your fridge?

Happy World Bread Day!
In Romania, the bread that means “holiday” is cozonac — a soft, braided sweet bread swirled with walnuts and cocoa, baked for Christmas and Easter.

It starts with the flour. Boromir's cozonac flour is milled for yeast doughs that need to rise high and stay soft.

A tip from Romanian grandmothers: bake a practice loaf in October, so December's comes out perfect.

In Romania, October has an old folk name: Brumărel, the month of the first frost. It's also jar season — grandmothers roasting peppers, pickling beans and filling the cămară for winter.

No time for 40 jars this year? Our Romanian pantry shelf has you covered: Râureni Lombardi peppers, sweet red cherry peppers and yellow beans in brine. Open, serve with good bread and something smoked, done.
Which jar did your family always make? Tell us below.

🟢 Mild — smooth and gentle, for those who love the clean taste of paprika and meat

🔴 Hot — bold and fiery, for those who like their grill to really bring the heat

This poppy seed came straight from Czechia to make your koláč taste the way it should.

Semix Mak Mlety is ground poppy seed imported directly from Czechia — the same kind used in real Czech koláče, makowiec, and the baked goods you remember from childhood.

Finely ground and ready to use — just mix with sugar, milk, or honey and you've got a filling just like grandma used to make.

Because a good koláč starts with good poppy seed 🇨🇿

You're not buying a wholesale product. You're buying something someone makes for you by hand.

Behind Majas Hurka and Veres Hurka, there's no big factory. There are local butchers who make them the way they've been made for generations in Central

Europe — by hand, in small batches, following a traditional recipe.

This is our own line, Old Europe Foods — not imported, not mass-produced on an industrial scale. Just good meat, spices, and someone who knows how to do it right.

When you open the package, you're opening a piece of real craftsmanship 🇭🇺

Sheep cheese with 3 ingredients. How many does yours have?

Sheep cheese. Cream. Salt.

That's the entire ingredient list for Bryndza (Ludwig Dairy) — a traditional sheep cheese from the Carpathians, made the same way for generations in Slovakia and Poland.

No vegetable oil. No emulsifiers.

Creamy, salty, bold flavor — exactly what real cheese should taste like 🧀🇸🇰
