Dear Friends and Valued Customers:

Today we are pleased to announce the merger of Buckeye Bison and Green Plains Farm. Our new business venture, Green Plains Bison Ranch was created to provide our customers with a healthy, delicious, and sustainable choice for meat.

Theodore and Tabitha Monnin started raising bison in 2018. Their company, Buckeye Bison enjoyed consistent sales growth by serving the greater Columbus, Ohio market’s demand for locally raised bison. The Monnin’s decided to partner with Glen and Sarah Courtright, owners of Green Plains Farm in South Charleston, OH to expand production while maintaining the commitment to quality, animal welfare, and land stewardship.

Green Plains Bison Ranch practices “regenerative agriculture”. This farming approach increases soil biodiversity and organic matter. Healthy soils lead to stronger and more nutrient-rich forage, without the need for synthetic fertilizers and/or pesticides. Healthy soils further promote the growth and health of our animals, while restoring important carbon-capturing grasslands in the process.

We believe that eating local is fundamental in building a more sustainable world and a vibrant local economy. We are committed to fostering a sense of community around food and keeping resources close to home; every dollar spent with us remains in the local economy. Our bison are processed at Ohio-owned, USDA inspected facilities. We sell bison meat at our online store (www.greenplainsbison.com), locally owned markets, selected restaurants, and at our farm.

Join us on our journey to build a more resilient, local food system that emphasizes quality, animal welfare, and land stewardship.

Sincerely,

Theodore and Glen

These boys are ready for breakfast. Since the pastures are dormant for the winter we have to feed the bison hay every day in order to keep them fed and satisfied. The bison know the daily schedule and are ready and waiting for the feed tractor each morning and eager to get the best hay the second it hits the ground.

These boys are putting on their winter fur as we head into winter and it is getting thick! They develop a thick fur that allows them to comfortably weather just about any storm or harsh weather. We’ve had -20 degree days over the past several winters and the bison couldn’t care less. They are amazing animals in many ways.

We had an awesome sunset tonight over Green Plains Hay Farm. We love spending our evenings checking on the bison, spending time outside every day of the year and getting to experience nature and it’s beauty in moments like this.

Checking our two herds tonight at our Green Plains Hay Farm and they are getting big. The grass forage on this farm was carefully planned and grown for the sole purpose of growing high quality bison. These past several months of running these pastures with amazing nutrition has allowed these animals to really add size and weight and look fantastic heading into the winter.
