twenty-seven mums have kidded in thirteen days.

current kiddo count is at 59.

four mums are left to kid.

there have been EIGHT sets of quads so far.

we have also experienced our first set of QUINTUPLETS. we were hoping to never experience that but our girl Joy had other plans.

all babies are happily frolicking around the barn with their mums & aunties drinking up all the milk they want right from their mumma’s teats.

dam raising is a beautiful experience. bad for business. but good for our herds health & wellbeing.

in just about a months time we’ll be weaning the babies & milking the mums so we can drink up all that nutritional deliciousness & start making cheese again for all to enjoy!!

Spring is spranging 🌱🐐💛

..are you my mother?

meet Chimi & Changa !!

found out our giRl Pepperoncini follows in her OG aunt Alice’s footsteps and shares her general distain for motherhood.

so cheers to bottle babies & our pup Rhonda getting to indulge in her motherly instincts for a wee bit this kidding season.

young Gem is growing everyday and gets no days off with these lil kiddos running around but her instincts to love and protect are ever growing. Our giRl Shiitake has been an amazing mentor & friend.

feelings of Spring having sprung abound !!

Thinking about spring kiddos with a mind full of baby goats frollicking about in the sunshine and bouncing off the walls of the barn? Us too!!

Our reservation list has begun here at Scalawag Farm! We are currently taking $50 (per kiddo) reservation deposits. $50 (per kiddo) secures your place on our reservation list, ensuring your choice of available goats.

Another deposit of half the total, less the reservation deposit, is due when you come by the farm to choose which scalawags you’ll be taking home with you, with the remainder due at pick up.

This is a first come, first serve system.

Please let us know if you're interested in bucklings/wethers/doelings.

Whether you’re just starting out or want to add new genetics to your herd, let’s get in touch!

You must bring home a minimum of two goats to ensure comfortable companionship throughout the transition & the rest of the goats lives. We will never sell one single goat. Kiddos will always be sold as pairs or more. If you're just beginning your herd, it is always best to start with three. Have questions? Let’s chat about it.

Goats will be CD-T vaccinated and all come from our clean tested herd right here on the farm, free of CL/CAE/JOHNEES/TB/ BRUCELLOSIS. Biosecurity is a top priority here.

All kiddos will be electric net fence trained & weaned from their mums upon pick up.

We will send you home with a bit of grain & their loose minerals to help ease the transition on their digestion to whatever you choose to feed at your farm or homestead. Here we feed out organic whole grains & organic kelp based minerals.

All kiddos are handled daily.

We do not disbud here as we find the act of disbudding inhumane. Our humane practices come first & above all else here at Scalawag Farm. So be aware that all goats come with growing horns! Our goats are all 100% Nigerian Dwarf.

Prices will vary depending on their genetics and if they are ADGA registrable.

We reserve the right to keep any kiddos here at Scalawag Farm.

All wethers (castrated males) will be $250
Doelings will range between $350-650
Bucklings will range from $500-1,000

Kidding season begins here at the end of March & will go well into April. Kiddos will be ready for their new homes around early June, depending on when they were each born.

Once we accept enough reservations, we then begin our waitlist. No deposit is due to get on the waitlist as we cannot guarantee kiddos beyond our reservation list but still start a waitlist incase any of our reservations back out. Wait listed folks get first priority for the following kidding season.

Please reach out via email, call or text if you have any questions.

⭐Thanks for supporting our small farm as we approach the off season while our goat mums are getting busy with their favorite bucks for the next generation of spring kiddos !!

In a time when technology has taken over our lives in even the smallest of ways by being the way we check the time or where we hold our schedules, grab an old school calendar & get back to taking the time to write down your personal schedule. Or just take the time to glimpse at a silly baby goats face to start off your day.
Place the calendar on the wall or place it inside of a kitchen cabinet like your mum used to or like mine still does!

It’s a way to put down the screen & let go of technology for just a little while each day. Small habits like this create a world of a difference in your everyday.

Get’em while they last & thank you for supporting our itty bitty farm !!

Spring has Sprung & fiddleheads are back in the farmstand !! Stop by the farm stand while supplies last. We will be continuing to harvest until all of the ferns unfurl.

The goats are currently on pasture by the roadside so if you’re lucky you’ll catch a peak at the mums & all their kiddos romping around when you pick up your fiddleheads. Be sure not to touch the fence as it is electric ⚡️!!

Fiddleheads are available in 1lb bags.

$6 per pound or $20 for 4lbs

if you’re interested in wholesale orders give the farm a call or text.

Not sure how to prepare your fiddleheads? Here’s the proper steps to follow to ensure food safety & simple deliciousness 🌱🌀

1. Clean the fiddleheads thoroughly by rinsing them under cold water and removing any brown papery husks or ends. Swish them around in a bowl of water to remove any dirt or debris.

2. Boil or steam the fiddleheads for 10-15 minutes to reduce any potential toxins and bitterness. Boiling for 15 minutes or steaming for 10-12 minutes is recommended for food safety. Shorter cooking times may not eliminate all risks.

3. After boiling/steaming, drain the fiddleheads in a colander. You can also shock them in an ice bath to stop the cooking process if desired.

4. Pat the fiddleheads dry with a clean towel or paper towels.

5. Sauté the boiled/steamed fiddleheads in a skillet with olive oil or butter and garlic for 2-3 minutes to add flavor. Season with salt, pepper, and a squeeze of lemon juice.

6. Avoid overcooking, as fiddleheads can become mushy. The recommended boiling/steaming times help maintain a tender texture.

7. Enjoy !!

The key steps are thoroughly cleaning, boiling/steaming for the recommended time to reduce potential toxins, then quickly sautéing to add flavor while preserving texture.
