Goranson Farm

Goranson Farm Goranson Farm is owned and operated by Jan Goranson, Rob Johanson, and their sons Carl and Goran, with superhuman help from their dedicated farm crew.

Goranson Farm is a second- and third-generation certified organic vegetable farm dedicated to providing nutrient-dense food to the local community and stewarding historic farmland on the banks of Merrrymeeting Bay. Jan's father and mother, Everett and Geneva, had farmed high-quality potatoes on this land since the 1960's, and their parents were farmers in northern Aroostook County. For the last 30

years, Jan and Rob have worked to maintain this unique family farm and preserve the irreplaceable open space along Merrymeeting Bay. All year round, we are lucky to provide the healthiest, freshest produce possible to our market and wholesale customers, informed stewardship to over 100 acres of land, and full-time employment in our rural town. By keeping some of the best agricultural land in Maine growing MOFGA-certified organic vegetables, strawberries, and cut flowers, everyone in the community benefits. Potato planting is done, which means it’s time to fix the barrels for next year! We don’t use these for harvest anymore, but they’re good for storing cut seed and hauling it out to the field.

It’s a great day for a farmers’ market! Do you need another cherry tomato plant for your garden? We love sending you home with them for so many reasons:

-Great bang for your buck. We love them for their productivity. You’ll have pints and pints continuously all summer til frost—plenty to roast and freeze or share!
-Beginner-friendly. The will to live in these plants is ferocious, and they’ll produce for you pretty much no matter what. The better you treat them, the more you’ll get out of them!
- Versatile. Cherry tomatoes can thrive in a container, in a cooler spot, and in less direct sun than more demanding crops. The minimum requirement is 6 hours of full sun. Right now we’re getting 15+ hours of daylight in Maine.

Our favorites:
☀️SUNGOLD: possibly the world’s most popular garden tomato. Pretty orange color. Nothing beats the flavor and reliability.
💯SUPER SWEET 100: The most productive, a more delicate, sweet red type that’s ideal for keeping kids occupied picking each little bite!
JULIET: technically this is a plum type, but it has the smaller size and characteristics of cherry tomatoes. Excellent for salads, sheet pan dinners, and even fresh sauces.
WASHINGTON CHERRY: This one you don’t have to prune! Larger, denser red fruits that will keep for weeks on your counter. Thick walls and less juiciness make them ideal for kebabs or roasting to preserve.

Come browse them all at and this morning, or at the farm stand any day of the week!
Did you know? You can spend SNAP/EBT, Maine Harvest Bucks, and Bumper Crop on any seedlings that grow food.

A note about availability:
If you know anything about our farm, you know that we strive to have everything available all the time. We use our decades of experience and 60+ years on this piece of land to do everything we can to plan for continuous supply. We are constantly researching and trialing new methods to extend the seasons and have overlapping plantings, all so that you can get what you want. We have it pretty well dialed in (knock wood) for crops like greens and tomatoes. However, we are not gods! We do not control the weather. If you see we had something available on a Friday, please stop and think about all the factors we are managing before you let it upset you that we don’t have it on a Tuesday. Perennial and biennial crops like asparagus and strawberries are especially dependent on temperature fluctuations and the right or wrong amount of rainfall. As much as we wish we could magically have it for you every single day of the week, it is not humanly possible to pick something that isn’t there.

That being said, we should have a good supply of ripe, luscious, CERTIFIED ORGANIC strawberries for you through the weekend!

THANK YOU for coming to market, foul-weather friends! We were so buoyed to have great crowds after the initial raindrops and to send you home with so many happy seedlings! We do it all because you keep showing up. Thank you for supporting the way we farm.

P.S. DON’T leave plants outside tonight, it’s probably going to frost! Fingers crossed it doesn’t!
