I finally got a chance to try a Pliny the Elder here in the state of Maine. Been waiting about 12 years to do so. Russian River Brewing has just recently started distributing here in Maine and Pennsylvania on the east coast.
I hope to start brewing again next summer. Been a bit since that has happened for sure. Oh, the beer was very good by the way. Should you ever get a chance to try one, I don't think you will be disappointed.

Well it has been 5 months since I had the brewery up and running. I seem to have a hard time finding free time to brew lately.
Today I fired it up to brew my Annual Awsomer As F***g Double IPA. Started heating the strike water at 7:30am. Had everything all wrapped up, cleaned up, and put away by 1:00pm. It was a pretty smooth brew day. Becky used some of the spent grain to make some homemade bread that came out wonderful. I have posted a pic of the bread and one of the hydrometer sample.
Cheers everybody!!

Last weekend I had the privilege of visiting a couple of Maine breweries. Stopped in to Three Tides & Marshall Wharf Brewing Company of Belfast Maine. https://www.facebook.com/search/41135004445/local_search?surface=sist
to partake of of a couple of pints of Cant Dog Imperial IPA, and T2-R9 Barleywine, along with some of their wonderful food options. Great atmosphere, great people, great staff, great food, and most of all great BEER!

The next evening we visited with some family and friend at Mason's Brewing Company of Brewer Maine. https://www.facebook.com/masonsbrewing/
enjoyed a pint of the wonderful Farmhouse Saison, and an American IPA, and a pizza off of their menu. We also got a tour of the new brewery. They are located directly across the river from the Bangor Waterfront Concert Venue. Just so happened that Dolly Parton was playing that evening so we got to listen to some of the concert music, visit with family and friends, and meet some new people. It was a great time. If you get a chance stop by these two Maine breweries, I dont think you will be disappointed!!

Cheers

Sunday I did my first Brew In A Bag. I purchased the brew bag from http://www.brewinabag.com awhile ago and just finally used it. I was thinking during winter months it would be a little simpler to use this setup for brewing and would shorten the brew day.

When using my regular 10 gallon brewery it usually takes around 5 hours from start to finish as there is more equipment and pumps to clean. (Keep in mind the 5 hours is with everything all set up and ready to roll the night before.) With the Brew bag it took me 4 hours from start to finish so it did not save a whole lot of time.
After using it a couple of times I am sure I could probably reduce the time a little more.

The bag is well constructed and works great. It is a huge help if you have a place where you can hang the bag from while the grains drain as it will get heavy real fast. I supported mine from the garage door rail over the brewpot while it was heating up and kept it there until it was pretty much done dripping.
I can see where this would be a great way for someone to get into all grain brewing without having to purchase or build alot of equipment.
Cheers.

It has been awhile since I have posted anything on the brewery. Not much free time to brew this summer. I did brew a 10 gallon batch of a S.M.A.S.H. Pale Ale and a 10 gallon batch of Saison back in July for my son and his wife's wedding. It seemed to be well received well as all 20 gallons evaporated from the taps.

Today I am brewing another batch of my Awesomer As F***g Double IPA. I have posted a photo of the ingredients that will make a 5 gallon batch. 14lbs of grain, 12 oz of hops, and 2 Hopshots. It will be ready to tap in about 6 weeks. Good stuff.

Cheers
