Finally got to do a thorough harvest of the brassica bed yesterday and what a fruitful harvest it was! The garden grew a bit on neglect this year 😅 but that didn’t stop the greens from growing wild! We got quite a few small cabbages and our first ever harvest of kholrabi as a new trial veggie this year. 🥬🥦

This past weekend we butchered our first round of chickens! 🐓 we ended up with 8 roosters in this springs batch of chicks which made for a great test run on our set up before raising meat birds next year. Final freezer weights averaged right around 4 pounds each which I can’t complain about for being 6 month old roosters and will provide us with many meals through the fall and winter months

While I wouldn’t necessarily recommend a 2 month old as your 3rd set of hands for this process it didn’t go too bad 🤣we learned a few things we want to do differently next time and some upgrades to our setup and equipment to help us be more efficient

Now to hope for a fruitful hunting season to fill the freezer the rest of the way! 🦌🏹🤞🏻
