After several snow storms, yesterday's temperature was 48 degrees. With this promise of spring I was motivated! Two chicken coops and the rabbit barn cleaned. I do not breed the rabbits over winter as I am way up north and the market just isn't there over winter. That said welcome the first litter of Mini Lop kits for Azul. First time mom and she did everything right! Only 4 but fat and gorgeous blue and broken blue. Living up north is like the pain of childbirth, you forget quickly when you are smitten by the love and joy of birth. Spring is that for me. I quickly forget chores in the deep cold. Planting seeds, births, and hatchings heal winters wounds. I am truly blessed to live this life.

I was really hoping this storm would pass us by, but instead it brought 10 inches of lovely white snow. The pigs were not impressed. MJ the largest pushed the other three ahead of her, causing them to plow a path for her. Much to their distress, squealing and snorting their displeasure. We spent most of the day rearranging the snow out of our way. Gates and doorways have been cleared, pathways to the pasture, rabbit barn and pig pen made. Outside rabbit hutches and green house shoveled off. Driveways plowed, just in time to start evening chores 🤣
Tell me agian way I do this! 🙃

The farm knows spring is coming the hens have started laying agian, lambs are soon to arrive and the hostas are getting ready under snow covered straw. Share with me your challenges and blessings

Spring brings growth and babies. It also brings judgement sometimes. The "how could you eat it folks". I understand and respect their thoughts. I also choose to raise, nurture, provide the best care I can. The most humane death. I have no idea what the meat I see in the grocery went through. I prefer my way, they can prefer theirs.

Winter is slowly releasing its grip. Days are getting longer. The small reminders of the things I am greatful. This morning I cracked the last store bought egg as the hens are starting to lay agian. The difference, even in winter reminds me of how blessed I am to have such healthy food.
