Maine's directed menhaden fishery will re-open Monday, August 31 at 12:01 a.m. under reduced harvest measures.

Good news for Maine lobstermen! Canada has removed U.S. seafood from its retaliatory tariff list.

A 25% tariff on American lobster would have threatened one of Maine’s most important markets during the critical fall fishing season.

Keeping seafood tariff-free protects lobstermen, coastal businesses, and the deeply connected U.S.-Canadian seafood supply chain.

The MLA is deeply concerned by Canada’s announcement that it will impose a 25% tariff on American lobster beginning September 8.

The impact would be felt immediately on Maine’s docks.

The MLA urges the Administration to keep its pledge to protect American fishermen and preserve tariff-free access for Maine lobster before September 8. Protecting access to one of Maine lobster’s most important markets is essential to fulfilling that commitment.
