I don't think I've ever won a 1st place ribbon - definitely not for my pottery.

I won first place the pottery division at the 2026 53rd Annual Mattoon Arts Festival. I was my frogs were the deciding factor. I will be bringing up this up to everyone for the next 365 days while I am the reigning champ.

I've been working on some tiny things while waiting to get back to the wheel (fingers crossed I can make some stuff before the Mattoon Street Market 😬😬😬) .

I started by making some salt & pepper shakers (classic), whistles (which made an appearance this spring at markets), and then.....I made these.....

Can anyone guess what they are?

I gave some hints in the second & third photos.

I can't set up my light box, but since it's summer, that's for the best - because this Japanese maple and sunshine makes for even better photos.

I've been really into stripes lately. Making work without lots of texture is genuonely hard for me, but in the end, I love the creative freedom a smooth surface allows during glazing.
