It’s June, and summer trips are still very much bookable.

#3 always throws people off.

But here’s why I skip these cruise upgrades when I’m booking my own vacations:
1️⃣ Cruise Line Transfers
If I’m purchasing transfers, I’m almost always booking a private transfer instead. I love having my own driver, avoiding multiple hotel stops, and not waiting for a full bus to load and unload. It’s usually a smoother and more personalized experience and sometimes very similar in price.

2️⃣ Cruise Line Excursions
I often book private shore excursions that are back-to-ship guaranteed. Not only are they frequently less expensive than the cruise line options, but they also tend to offer smaller groups, more flexibility, and a more personalized experience.

3️⃣ Drink Packages
This one surprises people the most.
When I cruise, I often choose a club-level, suite, or specialty cabin category that already includes drinks and additional perks that I value. If I’m not booking one of those cabin categories, I typically pay à la carte because I simply don’t drink enough to justify the cost of a drink package.
That doesn’t mean these upgrades aren’t worth it for some travelers—they absolutely can be. It just depends on your travel style, priorities, and how you vacation.
That’s why working with a travel advisor matters. The best value isn’t always the cheapest option or the upgrade everyone else is buying.
