Mattebella Vineyards is a small, family vineyard owned and operated by Mark and Chris Tobin. Our single 15 acre vineyard is located on Long Island's scenic North Fork which is famed for its exceptional terroir. We produce about 1500 cases per year, the perfect amount to allow us to focus on handcrafting world-class wines. We make our wine in an old-world style, beginning in the vineyard. The acrea
ge is planted to traditional French standards, and we predominantly use European clones of the four classic French varietals which we grow: Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc. In the vineyard, Chris manages the vines entirely by hand from the winter pruning to the fall harvest. She is committed to using sustainable viticulture practices, and incorporates organic farming methods whenever possible. This makes for a healthy vineyard which yields notably higher quality grapes. Chris's viticultural practices and Mark's winemaking efforts are closely coordinated. Mark's belief is that great wines are made in the vineyard and his role as winemaker is more akin to that of a shepherd than that of a magician. In order to fully appreciate and utilize the different nuances of our various grape clones, they are each harvested and fermented separately. Though we use modern, state-of-the-art equipment in the winery, the actual crafting of our wine is very traditional. His style is non-interventionist, allowing the grapes to express their natural character
Mattebella's commitment to quality is evident in the quality & consistency of the wines we make. Our family hopes that you experience as much pleasure in drinking and sharing our wines as we do in making them for you.
