Talk about a BUSY summer. I know we've not posted much.
4-H SAFE BB division kept us SUPER busy this year. Our youngest placed 3rd overall in state, and her team took 1st place team. Followed up that with Nationals in Roger's Arkansas.
Unfortunately, that meant gardening took a back seat. The 10 days we were gone and the lack of rain meant we came back to a garden beyond saving minus the peppers.
Our replacement chickens are laying eggs again. We're doing the same as we were before. $3 per dozen, you provide the carton. Just text us a couple days before you want to pick up.
Rabbit season is just about to begin. This weekend will be our first breeding session, and while we don't expect any litters from this, keep an eye out for updated on upcoming litters.
We are offering a CO-OP option on meat litters only. We know money stretches only so far. For $30 you'll get an entire litter of MEAT quality rabbits ready at 8 weeks. That means you'll have between 6-8 rabbits to go in your freezer. If you can't process them yourselves, we know a wonderful young man who charges $5 a rabbit. Sometimes outsourcing is the only way to make time for the important things. For those interested in rabbit, never had rabbit before, it's a lot like chicken, but I find it needs a little more seasoning (similar to how turkey meat needs more seasoning compared to beef). We've made jerky, nuggets, and use it frequently in casseroles where it's not necessarily the main star. When used this way, a single rabbit feeds a family of 4 a couple days.
We'll have a few breeders this seaon, usually do, but I can't promise what colors or genders or when. I can promise we will have Solid Reds as we only breed solid reds. They don't carry REW (or we've never had an REW appear in two seasons)
We'll also have Broken Blue/Black/REW/ and possibly solid Blue and Broken Black. We kept 3 REWs back this year (Burbon, Brandy, and Yoshi) and we don't know what base color they are. Their momma is Roux Baby, and we know she's a solid black base REW (just means hiding under the REW genes, she's solid black). Their first breedings will be a meat litter on purpose to confirm their colors as well as we can.
We plan on doing some projects over the winter, some social media lives, and plenty of other things, BUT all that will have to wait until after October!
This week, I've got some Beauty Berries to pick barring we can clear a path so we don't find some nope noodles hiding in the knee high grass, and I've got to finish the produce pouch apron that I was supposed to have finished at Father's Day (don't forget to do routine maintance on sewing machines even when you only use them a few times a year).
