You may have noticed that things have been fairly quiet for Breezy Bantam Farm recently. I have reached a stage where the chickens are taking a backseat to extracurricular activities with growing boys. I still have them, but I am still exploring to what extent I can continue with them. Definitely in smaller numbers and likely fewer shows, for now.

For those who are curious, I currently raise:

Belgian d’Anvers in Black, Blue, Blue Quail, Quail, Self Blue, and White

And Watermaal in: Black, Quail, and Blue Quail.

My sons also have a few pet quality Bearded silkies in Black, Blue and White.

Chick season is done here and everyone is in molt. Eggs are now scarce. We focused on hatching quail d’Anvers and quail Watermaal this year. I see a few hopefuls. I hope everyone else has some promising chicks in those growing pens as well!

Alabama Bantam Club Tri Show Feb 13-14, 2026. I was the only Watermaal exhibitor. The pullet at the beginning of the video got Best of Breed (BB) for the first show, and the hen got Reserve of Breed (RB). The hens (3rd and 4th birds in the video) took those places, respectively, in the second show. I think the c**k on the end should have been in there but it’s all good. All comes down to preference and how they are showing in the moment. Maybe next time little guy!

Heart of Dixie is a great little show. There was a very good turnout of d’Anvers with several stunning quail with Chadwick taking best and reserve of breed and going on to Champion row.

Took this little lady to Heart of Dixie today too (Feb 7, 2026)! She was one of 5 blue quail d’Anvers shown - three by S&E bantams and two by me. She got Best of Variety in the white card and Reserve of Variety in the yellow card show.

I had a display (consists of at least one one c**k, one hen, one c**kerel, one pullet, and one trio (if allowed) - or three more additional individual entries of any category if trios arent allowed) of Quail Watermaal at Heart of Dixie today.

Lil’ Cheeka is one of the Quail Watermaal pullets who was showing well. She got Reserve RCCL in the yellow card show judged by Phil Bartz out of a class of 76 birds.

This is my little quail d’Anvers hen named “Dyna” from what I call my dark-eyed family of quail D’Anvers. They are one of the three separate breeding groups, each focusing on a different breeding goal. In her family, I am focusing on improving darkness of eye color. She is very good at posing, too. Today, she placed both 6th (last) in the yellow card show and 1st BV/BB in the white card show out of a group of 6 good quality d’Anvers at Heart of Dixie.

Sometimes there are pullets who really don’t make the cut but have winning personalities. This is one such pullet. She has almost all white toenails, so there will be no space for her here. But she sure has soft feathers and a sweet and slightly sassy disposition!

Will the little quail Watermaal pullet, now named “Persnickety”, be safely reclaimed before a rat snake or other predator can get her? Time will tell. For now, I remain hopeful as she slowly becomes more acclimatized to my hands.
