Glen Mary Constructed circa 1848 by T.J. Smith. Bought in 1869 by U.S. Glen Mary is open to the public by appointment. Marilyn Meyers is the Executive Director.

General Ethan Allen Hitchcock and his wife, Martha Nicholls, whose descendants lived in the house until the 1970s. Glen Mary is the home base of the charity “Preservation America Foundation,” which owns and operates Glen Mary; the Foundation is dedicated to its restoration and ongoing maintenance, while nurturing diverse community experiences and connections by integrating education, the arts, and

nature. In addition to her significant personal financial support of Glen Mary, Ms. Meyers spends much of her time each year away from her permanent residence in Sharon, Connecticut, to support this mission. J.W. Nicholls was a paymaster for the U.S. Army during the Civil War. He lived at Glen Mary after the war; his relative, Martha, was married to U.S. General Ethan Allen Hitchcock who bought Glen Mary from the original builder, T.J. Smith, in 1869. This is one of Nicholls's trunks that held pay stubs, from a Nicholls descendant in Texas. Some of these chests and thousands of pay stubs were once stored on the second floor of Glen Mary. J.W. Nicholls is buried in the backyard of Glen Mary.

13 May 2026, Sparta City Council meeting:
The driving force behind Preservation America, Marilyn Meyers and her ever present companion, Charlie, accept the 2026 Sparta Hancock Historic Preservation Commissions' Award for Outstanding Historic Preservation in our community from HPC Vice Chair and Historic Society President, Rick Joslyn. Since purchasing local treasure Glen Mary in 1998 through her Foundation, Marilyn has worked diligently to preserve the "only surviving high Greek Revival 'raised cottage' plantation house in the United States still situated on a portion of its original lands". A truly unique treasure with a very unusual history, preserved by an iconic woman of fortitude, Marilyn Meyers.

The barn at Glen Mary dates to circa 1850. Thanks to a generous donation from Dr. James Cantrell of Athens, Georgia, its rotted out sill and stone foundation were replaced, and drainage around the barn installed, in 2014.
