The short version :)
A husband and wife team farming small, and solar powered on 6 acres. We take ethical growing very seriously. For us this means growing beyond organically, and participating in local markets focused on the work of developing a strong and inclusive local food system. Focus for the 2022 farm and market season includes:
-CSA shares delivered weekly within Bloomington, Ellettsvi
lle and Spencer areas.
- Payment plans for anyone who needs one. Weโre committed ๏ฟฝ to good food for all.
-Producing a SURPLUS of crops so that beyond market, the farm stop, and our CSA, we can help actively bridge the gap nutrition wise within our community. Inflation and the struggle to get by generally is real, and over these past 2-3 years itโs only become worse. Weโre real about helping however we can. Product Wise:
-Even more variety when it come to fruit and veg. Weโre always expanding our offerings, and are excited to have a large melon patch, as well as an expanding organic orchard.
-Naturally produced goatsmilk soap. We use our goatsmilk, an olive and coconut oil base (no corn, palm or soybean oil. EVER), plus therapeutic grade essential oils, and herbs/plant materials grown organically right here on the farm.
-Eggs from our free range/pastured hens. Our hens roam 6 acres from sun up to sundown and enjoy a small ration of Organic grain at bedtime. Weโve also added ducks to the farm.
-A wide assortment of microgreens. Organic seed and soil. Grown using our passive solar sun room, which allows for year round growing and product consistency.
-Heirloom tomatoes and other unusual veggies. We love unusual and tasty veggies and know you do too. All grown using natural practices. No sprays. No nonsense. The Longgggggg Version (how long do you have? ๏ฟฝ):
Early in our relationship, Sean recounted a story he had read of a husband and wife who wanted to "get out of it all" to start a small homestead and goat dairy. Sadly, before this dream became a reality for them, the wife passed away, a tragic event that made the man realize he needed to both grab life by the horns and honor his wife's dream by making it a reality. Sound like the plot of a Nicholas Spark's novel? Yes. But this is in fact a true story. Anyhow, Sean told me this story as we sat on a train in South Korea. At the time we both lived in the middle of Seoul, and weโre gardening in salvaged bookshelves on our rooftop. No joke. When he finished, he looked at me and simply asked, "would you move out into the middle of nowhere with me and start a goat farm"? My answer? Not only "yes", but "I can't think of anything I'd rather do". So, as we fulfilled the remainder of our teaching contracts in South Korea, we studied up. We took the task seriously and reads nearly everything we could get our hands onโฆbooks on homesteading, goat keeping, chickens, aquaponics, solar powered farm options like fencing/doors etc, sustainable gardening practices...you name it, we researched it. Oh, and we also got married
