RAAC begins its “tour” with the play "Almost, Maine"!

As part of its "RAAC On Tour program," the Rappahannock Association for Arts and Community announces its community theatre production of ‘Almost, Maine’ October 2, 3, and 4 at the Sperryville Volunteer Firehall.

“RAAC On Tour" is our way of assuring the community that RAAC programs will continue while our Little Washington Theatre completes extensive renovations,” says RAAC Board Member Sallie Morgan. “For our plays, movies, talks, and other activities, we will be taking RAAC ‘on tour’ to other venues in the county. "Almost, Maine" will kick off the program. We hope the community will take the tour with us.”

RAAC expects the theatre renovations, begun in July, 2026, to last about a year.

"Almost, Maine," written by John Cariani, has enjoyed successful productions around the country since it was first produced in Portland, Maine in 2004, where it broke box office records and garnered critical acclaim. Since the play was published in 2007, it has been performed professionally 100 times and by over 5,000 community, university, and high school theaters.

Comprising nine interlinked short plays that explore love and loss, the action takes place in the mythical almost-town called Almost, Maine, near the border with Canada. In the play, while the Northern lights hover in the sky above, the residents of Almost fall in and out of love in the strangest ways.

RAAC’s production, directed by Patty Hardee, features theatre regulars Jami Davis, Maureen Day, Mark Sullivan, Tina Falkenbury, Chris Nagle, and Nicole Wyant; and introduces Tim Carlson, Eden Giles, Sunanda Gaskins, Aaron Oyster, and Mike Weaver.

Almost, Maine, October 2 and 3 at 7:30 and October 4 at 3:00. At the Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department, 11871 Lee Highway, Sperryville.

We are so sad. Ella, the twin on the right, has gone missing. She was taken without a trace two days ago during the day, we assume by a bear or big cat, neither of which we have seen on the farm. Her brother misses her dearly, as do we. It's days like these that I wonder if I can keep doing this...

Our new puppy Hank. Two speeds: full throttle ahead and dead. Adopted from MAESSR (Mid-Atlantic English Springer Spaniel Rescue), an awesome organization that we've worked with since the 1990s. Hank is about 6 months old and a terrific dog. So far, we've only lost one slipper, two brushes, and part of a rug. Cats are still sequestered in our bedroom as he learns to "leave it." A work in progress.
