This beauty is Jayne Austin ( AUSbreak) she has a very heady intense rose fragrance ( think Koko Loco) that I think is always described as myrrh. I can't remember smelling myrrh so from now on I am going to call these rose fragrances heady and intense. This one is a hard one to propagate for me. Some roses are and I am still trying to crack the code. I just want to remind everyone - especially rosarians - to wear your gloves and protect your hands. I received a puncture from a thorn that caused me a swollen left hand that hurt incredibly for about four days. Who has time for that? If I had been wearing my rose gloves this wouldn't have happened. My favorite pair is by womanswork called the all leather gauntlet arm saver. I can smash a pile of dead thorny canes with them and not feel a thing. They are a necessity when I'm cleaning around the bushes also. I just have to remember to put them on 🤦🏻‍♀️

"The Lady's Blush" (AUSoscar) is in full bloom right now. This was a new variety to us last year and I love its fast repeat bloom and open centered form for our precious pollinators. Of course since it is so sweet all the aphids want some. The bug action has been incredible this year so far and it was something I was worried about with our very mild winter. I have never had such a big leafhopper problem than right now. I will post pictures later. Roses are just too delicious!

Summer Song( AUStango) living her best life in the hoops. She is a spindly girl but seems to be sturdier in here. I call her the banana rose because her fragrance is sweet intense rose with ripe bananas🍌🌹 the color of this rose blows me away every time

The stunning and uniquely gorgeous Andenken An Alma De L'aigle hybrid musk rose. It varies from a dusky pink to dusky apricot and I love to see the chameleon effect of this repeat bloomer. Strong sweet intense fragrance. I love it 😍

A beautiful buff apricot bloom of Everest Double Fragrance. This floribunda rose is one of the strongest spiciest/ sweet fragrances I have ever experienced in a rose. Bred by Peter Beales in the U.K. It had a nice tall upright form that is more like a hybrid tea and can reach a bit over 6 feet. It is more open centered which pollinators love🐝

The beautiful Belle Story (AUSelle) rose opened for the first time yesterday. We received her as a band last season and this is an exciting moment. Her fragrance is spicy and sweet. Good things come to those who wait. Speaking of patience, we appreciate yours as we are deep into shipping which takes time. As a small scale nursery, we cannot get all orders out in a day. Luna and I were blessed tonight on our walk with 5 hawks gliding above us in the clear prairie sky. My mom later told me a story of how when I was a baby and she and my dad and I would lie down in the field and watch the hawks fly above. They came so close as my mom could remember the sound of their wings and their curiosity of these three humans in a field by a small farmhouse on an undeveloped prairie. What a gift my mom gave to me on this Mother's Day. My mom loves this prairie. Memories of my dad and her without and with me are strong in her heart. It is a magical place and always will be for me

My sweet baby Luna after Spring bathies. So appropriate that our cherished salon Pawsitive Image had a rose oil conditioner for her. We usually use the deep sea mud bath, but this conditioner is just as good if not better. 10 years old and still a hardworking farm girl. Every day with my baby is a blessing 🐾🛁🌹

Today I had the pleasure of spending time with my two favorite boys- future gardeners of America. We spent time learning about weeds and plants and flowers. We direct seeded and thinned volunteers, and we could have stayed out there for hours and hours. It was a magical day with my sweeties Joseph and Christopher 😍😍

The beautiful Wife of Bath (AUSwife) rose bloomed today in the greenhouse. She was a young band last season and I am now seeing the full beauty of her blooms. I love roses that have a first opening bloom that is as beautiful as a faded older one. I love how the blooms on the lower canes gently nod downwards. Such a treasure!

Good news and sad news I found out tonight. I follow the bird cams every morning before I start my farm day. Seeing them is a comfort to me as it symbolizes hope that these animals that are so important to our ecosystems are continuing to thrive- especially our apex predators. And I love seeing mommas with their babies. I also have a soft spot for owls and hawks and have rescued both in my life. The last few days, Athena, the Great Horned Owl and her recently hatched owlets were removed from the lady bird Johnson wildflower center cams. One owlet died, and the second was presumed dead, but showed signs of life after being rescued by the Atlanta wildlife rescue. I am so thankful for organizations such as these still exist. We don't have them in my city anymore and that is such a travesty. I am going to send them a donation and I hope others will too- So this sweet owlet has all he needs to live his life as an adult owl in the wild and become an apex predator🦉
