Check out the newsletter or links in bio for Flower CSA updates and Garden Boxes! What seeds have you started already?! Any new favorites out there? I've got some new marigold varieties I can't wait to grow and new tomatoes and peppers I have never tasted before. I'm so excited for the gardens this year!

Daffodils are the first blooms i bring into the house each spring. What is it about them and this little ritual of picking and bringing inside that is so cathartic? In our past we were so tied to the natural rhythms and cycles, and these firsts, that it influenced all our decisions following these events. It wove together our cultural storytelling and lore into our agricultural cycles. Now we have to pay very close attention to even notice these fleeting signals of nature or they vanish before we've ever noticed them, no competition for our busy lives and constant attention to our tech. Things are early this year, i think on a base level everyone recognizes it, but some see it in the earliest buttercup or grass-widow, or the sounds and presence of birds and frogs singing, or the daffodils ready to pick much sooner than previous years. These important firsts are well worth of our attention. Nature still talks to us each year, subtle energies, to guide our planning and also become part of the stories told to us that we share with children and so on. Do you have special firsts? Is a parent or grandparent connected to a certain flower or bird migration in your mind? What will your little ones connect to you?

I believe this is a green sweat bee, I think the genus is Agapostemon? Maybe a lady A. virescens (these should be italicized... πŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ) you can't see it in this pic but her rear end is more of a black and light grey stripe rather than yellow or solid green. Help me out bee peeps! I'm looking on the WA Native Bee Society website - what do you think? I have a million photos of her working on this patch of Scabiosa flowers πŸ₯° so much color to look forward to in just a few short months!

I stopped to hunt for wolf lichen (last photo) in a favorite stand of ponderosa pines. I was distracted frequently along the way by all the mushrooms 🀍 I still managed to fill my bag with wolf lichen that had been blown onto the forest floor from the recent winds before i ran out of sunlight. I hope i got enough for a good dye bath. To be continued.... ☺️
