While the temperature may still say “summer,” Labor Day marks the unofficial beginning of fall for many of us—and with it comes one of our favorite annual fall traditions: Grandma Sally’s Honey Butter!

Named after Craig’s mom, who still holds the original recipe, this deliciously sweet and creamy spread is perfect on toast, English muffins, or bagels. But honestly, you may find yourself reaching for a spoon and eating it straight from the container!

🍂 The first batch will be available starting tomorrow. 🍂

Fall just wouldn’t be the same without Grandma Sally’s Honey Butter!

And just like that
 apple season has officially begun!

This morning we started picking some of our Red Duchess and State Fair apples, so that’s the good news!

The not-so-good news — and something many of you have been asking about — is that our apple crop is going to be very limited this year. A late freeze during bloom took its toll, and the drought we’ve been experiencing certainly hasn’t helped.

As we’ve mentioned before, we’re not a commercial orchard. This is our hobby
admittedly, a rather BIG hobby! We do this because we enjoy it, and that means we’re very much at the mercy of Mother Nature. Some years she cooperates, and some years
 well, she has other plans.

We’ll continue picking fresh apples every morning and will post what we have available each day. Once they’re gone, they’re gone.

We’ll also have some beautiful Mount Royal plums this weekend, and most likely again next weekend.

And that’s not all! We’ll have:
🍅 Fresh cherry tomatoes (and possibly a few other varieties)
Peppers
Fresh garlic
Great Walla Walla onions
Our usual selection of pickles
Honey
Syrup
Pottery

and plenty of other goodies.

We hope you can make it out to see us this weekend! Fresh-picked produce, homemade goodies, and a little bit of Northwoods orchard goodness.

Kim is unloading a newly fired kiln of pottery, and all of these wonderful pieces should be in the shop today! Come check out the beautiful new pottery and see what catches your eye. đŸș💛

We’ll also have fresh Walla Walla sweet onions and garlic available this weekend! Our Walla Walla onions are mild, juicy, crisp, and naturally sweet, with almost none of the sharp bite of regular onions. Perfect for salads, burgers, sandwiches — or anywhere you want a little extra sweetness and crunch! 😋

While we can’t call our produce “organic,” we don’t use pesticides or other chemicals in our gardens.

But wait
there’s more! 🎉 Our Waseca-famous Sweet Heat Pickles are back in stock! As with past weekends, they probably won’t last long, so be sure to grab a jar while you can. đŸ„’đŸ”„

Come by, browse the new pottery, and stock up on some fresh garden goodies and pickles while they last.

We hope to see you this weekend! Our hours-Friday 9-4, Saturday 9-4 and Sunday 9-1

As many of you know, Kim and I are proud members of the Town of Scott Fire Department. Kim serves as the Secretary/Treasurer, and I volunteer as a firefighter. Being part of the department is our way of giving back to the community and helping make it a safer place for everyone.

On Saturday, August 8, beginning at 11:30 a.m., the Fire Department will host its annual community event and fundraiser at the Fire Hall, located at the intersection of County Roads A & H.

We'll be serving hamburgers, brats, and hot dogs for a freewill donation. There will also be a live meat raffle and the drawing for our Mega Meat Raffle, featuring a œ hog and several other outstanding meat packages from Louie's Finer Meats in Cumberland.

If you're interested in purchasing Mega Meat Raffle tickets, contact us or stop by the shop this weekend.

If your calendar is open, we'd love to have you join us! Stop by for lunch, meet the dedicated volunteers who serve our community, check out the Fire Department, and enjoy a fun afternoon while supporting a great local cause.

We took a little road trip to Door County this weekend. And as you know, we absolutely LOVE to support small businesses - the kind where the owners are the ones working the front desk, making the food, or helping load your car. We want to share this fantastic little gem we found
because sometimes the best travel plans are the ones you never planned at all.

We pulled into the Scenic Shore Inn in Algoma, WI this past week simply looking for a room for the night. Instead, we found a motel that feels like it was preserved in a time capsule—and we definitely mean that as a compliment. Read on!

If you’re looking for granite countertops, mood lighting, and an app to unlock your room, keep driving.

If you miss the days when motels had personality, this is your place.

The experience starts with Bob, the owner. We’re pretty sure Bob is there 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. If he isn’t, we’re convinced he has an identical twin working the overnight shift. He genuinely cares about the place, and it shows.

Checking in is refreshingly old school. No touchscreen. No kiosk. No tablet. No “please wait while the system updates.” You fill out an honest-to-goodness registration card with your name, room number, and what kind of car you’re driving. Five minutes later, you’re holding an actual metal key. Not a key card
a real key. You even get a second key for the pool. Somewhere, a locksmith is smiling.

Then there’s the room phone. It’s a classic push-button landline that belongs in a museum. Show it to your kids and tell them to call Grandma. They’ll probably try to swipe the keypad first.

Now let’s talk about what really matters—the place is unbelievably clean. Not “hotel clean.” “Grandma-is-coming-over” clean! The rooms sparkle. The office is spotless. The pool area shines. I think even the parking lot has been vacuumed. Bob clearly takes pride in every square inch of the property.

And here’s something today’s hotels forgot about: you can park your car about six feet from your room. Six feet! No dragging coolers, suitcases, and backpacks through a football field-sized lobby, waiting for an elevator, then hiking down a hallway long enough to qualify for a marathon.

Another thing we loved was something that’s almost disappeared from modern hotels. Every room has a table and chairs right outside the door. In the evening, people actually sit outside, chat with their neighbors, compare fishing stories, swap recommendations for the best local restaurants, and just enjoy the evening. It reminded us of family vacations years ago, before everyone disappeared into their rooms to stare at their phones.

Breakfast is included, and yes
they have waffles. As far as we’re concerned, any breakfast that lets us make our own waffles is already operating at a five-star level.

The motel isn’t directly on the lake, but it’s just across the road and only minutes from downtown Algoma, making it a great location without the waterfront price tag.

We liked it so much that we actually came back for a second night—even though it meant driving out of our way. That’s about the best review we can give.

Places like this are getting harder to find. It’s not fancy. It doesn’t try to be trendy. It doesn’t need an app. It’s just clean, quiet, comfortable, and run by someone who still believes customer service matters.

If you’re ever headed to Algoma and appreciate a little nostalgia mixed with one of the cleanest motels you’ll ever stay in, give the Scenic Shore Inn a try.
