As someone who whelps litters, boards dogs, breeds dogs, and owns a house full of dogs, I have one request:
Please respect the holidays that everyone knows are coming before setting off fireworks.
Most dog owners can prepare for July 4th, New Year’s Eve, and other advertised events. We can adjust schedules, stay home, set up safe spaces, use calming aids, and make sure puppies, seniors, anxious dogs, and livestock are secure.
What is much harder are the random fireworks on a Tuesday night at 10 PM with no warning.
A few minutes of fun for some people can mean hours of panic for pets, lost dogs, injured animals, stressed nursing mothers, disrupted litters, and sleepless nights for owners trying to keep everyone safe.
I’m not anti-fireworks. I’m simply asking for consideration. If it’s a holiday we know about, most of us can plan. If it’s random, we can’t.
Please be mindful of the animals, veterans, shift workers, and families in your community. A little courtesy goes a long way.
