Today we said goodbye to our farm boss, Snoopy. Layne rescued him in 2017, where he was chained off on a 5’ logging chain at a local dump. He was tortured by the vultures who frequented the dump, and poor snoop had to fight the buzzards to even get some food each day. Most days he didn’t even get to eat because the buzzards ate it all. It happened to be my sons 13th birthday that day, so he begged his dad to go ask the people who owned him if he could buy him. They said yes, and the rest is history.
Snoopy has been one of the best dogs we’ve ever owned. He was loyal to me in his later years. If I was feeding chickens, he was 1 step behind, making sure he had eyes on me at all times. Recently, he had gone completely blind and deaf, but that didn’t stop his nose. As soon as my foot hits the door, he perks up and starts baying and following me everywhere. We could not have asked for a better dog. He was a true man! When he started feeling bad, he went and found a spot that was comfortable and out of the way. He died very peacefully in a nice, quiet space. I am thankful that he passed peacefully on his own, at home on his farm that he loved so much.
Rest easy Snoop Dog, your job here is done. We miss you already!

The last litter of pups for this year went home last week….except for this guy. This is a sweet male that I held because he skinned his nose while playing with his puppy friends. It has started to grow back slowly, but he still needs a home. Someone that can see passed his skinned nose. He is one of the sweetest pups I’ve had come through the farm. He is a little cuddle bug. He will make a great dog for someone, just in time for Christmas!

Finally to the end of “the pile”. This summer has been busy with so many things, but processing chickens has definitely taken most of our weekends. Last batch will be done this weekend. Our freezers are full, so if you still need chicken for your freezer, contact me, we still have some that are not spoken for. We have processed between 600-700 chickens this summer. The reviews are great, and everyone is loving them. It will be a long and cold winter, and who knows where the prices will be next year. Now is the time to stock those freezers, or start thinking Christmas…..a cooler of chicken would make anyones year!

Finally finishing up this chicken season. All orders are filled, and now we are working on filling our own freezers. Still have some whole chickens available. If anyone needs more before winter, now is the time to stock that freezer! With the crazy times we are living in, it certainly doesn’t hurt to know you have fresh chicken in your freezer. $4.50/lb and the birds weigh between 5-8lbs….they won’t last long! If you are already a customer, and haven’t left a review, we would love to hear from you!
