Finchville Dairy at Walton Farm Grassland eggs and contracted herdshares Good Things Grown Naturally! we have spent much of that time studying “ back to basic” natural farming.

A Brief History

Scott and Sharon Cook have lived on Walton Farm at Todds’s Tavern Virginia since 1989, Sharon is a native and Scott is originally from Baltimore, Md. When they purchased the farm, Sharon said she felt like she was moving back home. Her Grandparents lived just a half mile up the road when she was growing up, and her Dad had grown up here. As a child she spent many hours wandering i

n the woods and fields nearby, or following her grandfather “Poppa” around as he fed chickens or milked the cows. Sharon has been an avid organic gardener since her youth, and Scott has a degree in Agronomy from Delaware Valley . Many years ago they decided that they liked a more natural lifestyle and have grown lamb, pasture poultry, brown eggs, horses, and even a few hogs and turkeys, all with minimal medications and lots of, that’s right grass. What could be more natural than to start a Micro Dairy at age 60? That’s right, what happened to retirement? Oh well, that’s another story.

Finchville Dairy at Walton Farm is a biologically correct farm. It is not an organic dairy. Organic has become a little too political. Our cows are raised like family. We move them to fresh pasture each day, they graze as long as there is grass, and during the winter they are fed long stem hay (healthier for their digestive system than chopped feeds). They are not fed antibiotics, just sweet pure grass. We breed our cows to our wonderful Devon bull, and because we are a Micro dairy we have only one or two steers a year to sell. We can offer whole, half or 1/4's, of our AFFORDABLE grass fed grass finished beef. We have one more steer that will be ready early in 2019. Hogs will be ready between Thanksgiving and Christmas, we sell by the half or whole hog. Priced by hanging weight and cut fees. Let me know if you are interested now so that we can plan. We only have a few that aren't spoken for!
