The last of this year’s bucklings are old enough to wether.

We only have a few to wether each year. We either use a burdizzo (preferred) or if we choose to band, we like these lidobands that are infused with lidocaine. In addition to comfort, they seem to be more sturdy than the cheaper green bands I can get at the feed store.

We love our livestock guardian dogs so much. They are the smartest dogs we have ever had. Intelligence and independent thinking combined with an athletic build can make LGDs hard to contain when they don’t want to be contained though.
When we adopted Annie, she was a pro at wiggling under fences. Moose was a boss at jumping them. They learned really quickly that they couldn’t do that here. Gioia has topped all others and can dig out or climb out of any fence that isn’t electrified top and bottom.
We have been so lucky that they haven’t wanted to leave our property (and worked hard to set them up for success). Internally though sometimes one will decide they want to join another dog in another field and take themselves over or under a gate in about 1.5 seconds flat. Sometimes even an internal escape can be dangerous for them if two dogs don’t get along or if other gates are open. So this is Gioia’s gate that recently got an upgrade under it. We did have concrete blocks behind her gate to prevent walkabouts and we finally got it buried now that it has cooled off a bit here so we can go through the gate with equipment now again.

Remember these guys? We took them and their mom in a few months ago and they were a little scrawny and undersized. Looking at them yesterday, I realized that they’ve caught up and are just about half grown. Mamma cat was spayed a few months ago. Yesterday 4 of the 5 kittens were spayed/neutered with help from our friends at Batta Cats for which we are really grateful. One exceptionally sneaky kitten escaped his crate the night before so we will get him next time.

Miss Calico’s serious expression I find hilarious. 😹 She’s not as outgoing as the others but has extra cat smarts.

Three of them purr and want snuggles the second they see us. If you’re local and looking for a kitten, reach out to see if one of these could be what you are looking for.

These two are something.

Not sure if this was their idea or Friday’s idea to tuck into the grass like this. At least they’re safe from hawks, but I can’t say I didn’t look around and panic for a quick second. 👀

This never gets old.
