Summer is here, and so is the heat. Be sure to keep plenty of fresh water out for your poultry and shade. I like to use those rubber low tubs so the chickens can stand in them if they want. Most of the time, it is common for poultry to not eat as much in the summer. Water is more important than food in the heat. I have a bunch of cross-bred bantams that I call my tick eaters. They will set their own eggs and have a bunch of babies right now. They are some of my favorites because they never get sick and live a long time. Crossbreeds are looked down on in the show poultry world, but are amazing birds. I was able to obtain some high-quality Silkie chicks this year from a friend of mine. I have not had them for years. The kind with big round fluffy head with all you can see is the beak sticking out. i may have some for sale next year. Everyone, be careful in this heat and don't overdo it.

Feeding and watering the animals was horrible today. My grown son Zac helped me or I could not have got it done. Breathing was the problem with and without the mast. Once again I have the barm on the north side and east side closed up. All the cracks and overhangs are plugged up. It makes the barn warmer even in this crazy weather.

So I'm not on here much in the winter because not much is going on. The chickens and I are just getting fat. I did hatch my first emu yesterday. All of the early eggs were not fertile. This is common in all breeds of poultry. It takes a while to get there. This is the main reason I never sell the first bunch of hatching eggs. It's even harder to tell in emu eggs. I have a blond baby out of my white and blond pair. Now I'm just waiting on the geese to lay.

So I got home late one night and something killed my white Sebastopol female. I locked them up at night and just missed that one night. So looking for a white female Sebastopol. Really would buy any female goose but not Chinese geese. Also looking for giant gray dewlap females. It looks like I have three males.
