Well... she changed her mind.

Bit dramatic, Pearl. 🙄😂

I can definitely tell she's not eating much (she's lost weight) and she's still moving slower but, she's up and around and seems more "Pearl" today. I'll keep ya posted!

She is the last remaining hen from original flock. Old age is finally getting to her and the extreme heatwave we've been in for several weeks is taking it's toll. I'm not ready to put her down just yet but I won't allow her to suffer at all. It won't be the same around here without her.

I moved her to a crate in front of the patio door so that I could keep a close eye on her. I'm offering freshwater and different foods frequently. She's just not interested. Right now the crate is fully in the shade but I do have it partially covered so that when the sun moves she will remain shaded throughout the day. If I feel that I need to, I will take a fan out there for her as well.

Please note, it's not at all necessary to give your chickens a fan but in a situation like this, I just want to make her as comfortable as I can while she passes.

Well hi there!
It's been TWO MONTHS since I've updated on the happenings here. 🥴😄 Our daughter got married last Saturday so I've been a bit scatter brained and preoccupied. This never-ending heatwave had almost halted egg production but we're still getting a few a day so that's good. We downsized quite a bit due to my hen-rooster ratio being way too off. Now we have 1 Lavender Orpington rooster, Benny and 1 Zombie dude, Robert. The "baby" ducks have all started laying. Maple turned out to be a drake but I'm not changing his name. 🤷🏻‍♀️😄 4 of the trees don't seem to be growing but two of the apple trees each bore one little apple a couple weeks ago. The duck pool became a tadpole habitat and I had no idea how long it takes for tadpoles to complete their transformation so that's been fun to watch. I'm sure there's a million other things I could update about since it's been so long but I'll just share a bunch of photos instead. ❤️
