We are looking to move on from our 2 herd starter mothers and our current herd bull's mother (In Picture).

The first 2 will be 7 years old in the next couple of months and calve in that same timeframe. The bull's mother will be 5 in December and likely to calve in November. All are excellent mothers.

We've had two calves born since July 3rd.

The first (has tags in the picture) is out of our dam AAA 20882812, Min. Homegrown first time momma. Her bloodlines are moderate size (not small) with calving ease at Top 10% CED. Her WW and YW run above breed average.

The second calf (no tags in picture) is out of our dam AAA 20882813, Egeanin. Also homegrown first time momma. Her bloodlines are breed average calving ease, top 15% WW, and Top 10% YW and MW. C index is 327, Top 20%.

Both are out of our herd bull AAA 20905612 that we bought off the 4 Sons Farm in Lexington, KY. We bought him for his all around genetics and his top end efficiency at turning feed into lbs. Top 15% CED and C index is 363, Top 10%.

Right now we intend to keep both of these, but we'll have a few bulls and maybe another heifer out of out herd bull available this Fall/Spring.

Sometimes I think they’re smart cows. Sometimes they’re dumb. Of course it’s mostly perspective.

Smart: This weekend I moved my fence each day as normal. One day, I moved the wire but forgot to move the pigtail posts. So the wire laid on the ground for 24 hours. The cows were smart enough not to cross. Normally the calves and yearlings would cross. Or are they dumb for not going to more grass?

Dumb: This fence movement was not a direct path from upfront where I feed them grain. So the next day I call them for grain and they line up along the fence like they don’t know how to get back to me. Or did they just want grass more than grain?

Time to start weaning. 3 of 5 for now.
