BLUE HERON IS HIRING!

Looking for an industry professional with sweet & savory pastry making experience, looking to hone in on their skills in a production-style atmosphere. Ideally, your experience would include creating and using laminated doughs. Our standards are very high -- this person must always be seeking to excel and exceed ours and our customers' expectations with consistent & quality products.

This is a leadership role, so some management experience is essential, as well as working 30+ hours a week, 5 days a week.

This is also a very physical job that is not for the faint of heart. The kitchen is large and hot in the summer, so be ready to hustle and sweat, and do it with a smile on your face. It requires lifting and maneuvering heavy bags of flour and bowls of dough. And being a production kitchen, there are a ton of repetitive activities that require concentration and dedication to not only finish but also finish well. We expect excellence.

We are a small but very hardworking team where everyone has several roles. BOH & FOH often blend together, so you must be prepared and able to break from pastry making & other kitchen duties to serving a customer at the counter or running orders if necessary. Everyone is expected to help where needed, and everyone receives tips from our tip pool in exchange.

Other knowledge/skills for extra bonus points:
-- passionate about local foods & producers/farmers in this area
-- what foods are available seasonally, and how to use them in dishes and baked items

Perfect for filling with all the seasonal fruit you get from the farmers market this summer! The class will focus on making this versatile dough, shaping the galette shells, baking, filling, and finishing. We will discuss other uses as time allows.

NEXT CLASS is Sourdough Bread & Rolls on March, 1st 4pm-6:30pm. Here's the info and registration link:

Participants will learn all stages of making sourdough bread. Everyone will get a fresh loaf baked during class, and also a shaped loaf to bake at home. All ingredients and recipe provided. This is a fun, interactive class for all skill levels. Whether you are baking for the first time, or are an experienced baker looking for some extra tips. Dinner by Blue Heron after class included. $75

BAKING CLASS UPDATE. Thank you so much to everyone interested in our baking workshops!! We are blown away really, and super excited to meet you all. This is a pastry class for couples (ANY couples, we love everyone) on Valentines Day, Tues Feb 14th 5:30-8pm. Purchase price is for TWO people. During the class we will create a special Valentines pastry, a Raspberry Almond King Cake plus a savory meal, Salmon en Croute. Dinner will be served to all participants -- Salmon en Croute, roasted carrots, and creamy mashed potatoes. Everyone will go home with recipes and pastries!

We are a small farm in Marshfield Missouri nestled amongst the beautiful rolling hills of the Ozarks. We use organic practices, raise heirloom plants and animals, are Non-GMO and truly free-range. We strive to operate a rich and diversified farm that focuses on producing staple foods that we consider everyday kitchen essentials. Dr. Lyle Foster is an Assistant Professor of sociology at Missouri State University, an accredited diversity trainer, and the owner of Big Momma's Coffee and Espresso Bar and Queen City Soul Kitchen. He’s an active member of the greater Springfield community as a change agent and entrepreneur, and has been recognized by The Springfield Business Journal and 417 Magazine as 12 People You Need to Know, 100 Influential Leaders, and a 417- Hero.

Jennie Boosey is a farmer, a baker, and an espresso maker. She co-owns Blue Heron Farm & Bakery with her husband, and together they just opened The All-Weather CafΓ© at the Farmers Market of the Ozarks. The Booseys strive to operate a rich and diversified farm that focuses on producing staple foods to supply to the local community, all while finding inspiration in their European ties.

Daniel Ernce is the head chef and co-owner of Progress. He developed a love for food at an early age, cooking with his mother. His professional career began in consulting and working with a cadre of chefs with varied perspectives and Michelin-starred backgrounds. His eclectic culinary voice and style are reflective of his mentors, travels, and hunger for knowledge and creativityβ€”challenging the status quo and traditional thinking–all while highlighting local farmers and artisans

To kick-off our 5th Annual Symposium, "Humanities and Food: Sustenance & Sustainability in Our Communities" we invite you to join us for an evening conversation with three local restaurateurs who have paved the way for how we can think about the relationship between food, community, sustainability, and cultural ties.

Our restaurateurs include Dr. Lyle Foster of Big Momma's Coffee and Espresso Bar and Queen City Soul Kitchen, Jennie Boosey of Blue Heron Farm & Bakery and All-Weather Cafe at Farmers Market of the Ozarks, and Daniel Ernce of Progress.

The event will take place from 7-8PM (doors at 6:30PM). Tickets are $5 (free for MH members) and include one beverage. Additional beverages will be available for purchase, as well as food from Backyard Carnivore (food truck).
