Hello! The farm is still closed...but Wes was going through some old files and found this time-lapse he made of a storm rolling over the farm. I know some people still follow this page so I figured I'd share the post and also say that I hope you're all doing well - or as well as can be expected - during this difficult time. Hello friends! We wanted to share a quick update. After we sold the farm, we left the farm website and social media pages up for anyone who wants to look at pictures or read our blog, but we recently unpublished the website. Our website is published through Weebly and they don't have ADA compliance settings so we took the site down to avoid the possibility of a lawsuit. You can still see photos and message us through this page if you like.

In case you're wondering, we ended up leaving New Orleans and are back in southern California. Missy decided to go back to being an environmental scientist instead of going to law school and will soon be doing oil spill response again for the state of California. We plan to buy a house here soon and one of the stipulations for our realtor will be a house with a yard that's big enough for Missy to have a few chickens. 🐓

Last year around this time, I compiled this list of more than 50 places you can shop online for gifts that give back and posted it on our farm blog. As the holiday shopping seasons begins this weekend, this post is just as relevant now as it was last year. I've come across a couple more organizations since then that fit the bill and will post them in the comments.

One of our very talented customers made this gorgeous Mobius scarf/shawlette using a variety of yarns from our farm. Not only is she talented, but generous too as she's giving it to me! I don't have anything made from our alpacas' yarn and she managed to capture our entire farm story in one beautiful piece to share with me.

In her words: "I enjoy supporting local (American) alpaca farmers. Through my interactions with several across the country and after reading their informative blogs and social media pages, my appreciation has grown for how much of a privilege it is to work with their yarn. One of the farmers I initially had contact with, whose blog made me laugh and cry, is now using her talents to pursue a different career, and I bought most of the rest of her yarn when her farm business officially closed. She raised White Shadow, whose award-winning fleece turned into yarn that I used for the Mobius Shawl that took first place in the Accessories category of this year's Crochet Guild of America's design competition. She had some funky art yarn made when she was learning to spin, and she had yarn dyed with pokeberries. I bought these from her as well as odds and ends like light fi*****ng baby suri baby alpaca yarn from Pasture Pals Pip and Willow and a bunch of coop yarn. My next creation is going to be a tribute to Root Down Acres, LLC in honor of Missy Kroninger's work to encourage environmentally sustainable farming practices."

Did you know that some horses can grow a moustache? More common in certain breeds such as the Gypsy Vanner, which is known for its luxurious mane and hair around its lower legs, it can occur to any horse that carries the right gene, male or female.
