Camping is probably my favorite vacation with kids. Want to make it even better, do it next to wild ponies. But just make sure you lock up your food cause they love some campfire corn.

The oldest found two quail eggs in the coop. We then candled them to see the bluish shells make them slightly green with light. She immediately wanted to cook and eat them, and declared them delicious!

We have 13 quail and we vent s*xed them all at 6 weeks old and the only mature Roo is Ice-cream. our only white spot. The girls helped identify the boys. Let me know if you would like to know how to identify a Roo too. If in the next two weeks we are not receiving 12 eggs then we will vent s*x again cause some of the boys might just be late to the party.

The girls upheld their promise and did not just enjoy the fun parts of quail but the literally poopy parts. We completely cleaned the coop added new bedding and dust baths and placed all the droppings, h**p, dust, and spilled food into our compost. Next year we are going to have the best garden!

Sometimes you just have to make a little mud and throw it against a tree.

The girls are so excited to watch them explore the new coop. The quail I am sure very excited to have a very large enclosure outside with sunlight.

I love the individual flair the girls added to our coop.

Who wants to guess if it is a hen or a Roo?

We are hoping for 10 hens and 3 Roos. Right now we are pretty sure on 4 hens and 1 roo, and the rest are a mystery to us.

But maybe you are have more quail knowledge than us. But even if you just want to give a random guess it will be fun to see if you are right in 4 weeks when we vent s*x them.

I am glad I got several pictures of them happily painting, before the littlest decided her entire face needed paint.

We are trying to add more nutrients to our tomatoes and have more of a zero waste household. So the girls helpfully ate 3 bananas (1 each) and cut up the peels. Then we filled it with water and let it sit for a couple days so hopefully the water we gave the tomatoes was full of great nutrients. But even if it did not we at least got our nutrients of potassium from our bananas and practiced our scissor skills.
