We have been blessed with 21/2 inches of rain over 2 weeks. Look how they are growing Yes we cut them back flush to yhe ground every yr in late January or February and they will be 8-10 ft tall by end of June

Spring rain came today The plants we cut to the ground in February are already a foot tall The fabric is blocking the weeds and the irrigation is ready to turn on when the rain turns off. Off to a good start

We now accept Goldbacks as payment for our berries.

Gold and silver are now approved as legal tender in Missouri. Goldbacks are an easy way to manage this. As we collect them as payment we will deposit them in our account with UPMA. Youtube has some good educational videos on Goldbacks and UPMA. MO doesn't have one - yet! But we will accept them from the states who do. We dry clyhes on the line or yhis old rack anytime we can. We make sourdough bread, render lard and use raw milk, get grassfed beef butchered, can and freeze our vegetables. We make sure our grandchildren, my Mom and our kids have elderberry syrup. But if you feel like you still meed to ask - do you use sprays on your berries? Do you grow organically?
I know I shouldn't go there. Let me adk. What do you think?

One of the best things about growing elderberries over the last 10 years is the amazing people we have met. We were gifted the most amazing eldergoodness you could ever taste!!! Karen makes it and she shared a bottle with us. It is amazing!!! I had never heard of it. Let me tell you, there is no other flavor like this. We love it on steak. I have to make some because, I think we will love it wherever we put it. Here is a link to the recipe I am using. I see some with nutmeg and some recipes without. I am checking with the expert herself to see whether she uses the nutmeg in what we ate. Oh my goodness, I can't wait to start making ours.

As things slow down life gets back to normal. I even scrubbed the shower today. Still no rain. It happens almost every year. Sedum is opening. Bees and butterflys are all over it.

Of course elderflowers mean more berries. We are at 1500 pounds and wrll, maybe I should harvest and dry these flowers. But the bees need them so....

Two of our heroes. The others go back to school this week. So these 2 amazing gals will be here to help us. We are past halfway harvesting so we are going to get less every couple days. They are troopers working in the heat, carrying heavy buckets, great attitudes and comittment. We were blessed with 4 great helpers this year. Can't make it without them.
