It all started in Toby’s kitchen in the late 1970s. She was a mom making food for a reason--her kids were hungry. Toby’s creations really gained traction at the Oregon Country Fair in 1978, where Toby created many of the original recipes that remain famous to this day. As Toby shared her food at family gatherings, with friends, and at the Eugene Saturday Market, word spread. Toby wasn’t just makin
g food for her children now! She and a few other market vendors joined together to launch a restaurant. While working at the restaurant and pregnant with her third child she made a vegetarian, protein-heavy snack to fuel her through long days. She shared it with her groups of friends, and soon the local community begged relentlessly for Toby to sell this ever-addicting tofu paté. Toby’s Plant Based Dip & Spread, then known as “tofu paté,” was first produced for sale from Toby's home certified kitchen. She and her partner made the product in the morning, loaded finished goods into an ice chest, and personally delivered the product to various natural foods stores in Eugene, OR. Toby started to receive calls from local mainstream grocery stores seeking to carry her products. Local restaurants were requesting a new salad dressing and couldn’t think of a better chef than Toby to make it for them--we began making dressing too. In 1994 Toby's son, Jonah, joined the family business and a few years later the company moved to a larger facility in Springfield, OR. We continued to produce the original recipes with locally sourced ingredients you can feel good about. Fast forward to 2021: We’re pleased to share that we’re still a family owned business, sourcing locally, and working hard to expand distribution of Toby's Family Foods products. Toby's Dressings are now sold nationally in Whole Foods Market and Sprouts Farmers Market, as well as all H-E-B locations in Texas.
