I've been out of town at a retreat for the last three days, and I came home to this. 🥺🇺🇸

JJ knew how much it mattered to me that our flag at Thousand Oaks be lowered to half-staff in honor of Dolly.🦋

So he took care of it.

No big announcement. He just knew my heart and knew this was important to me. 🩷

Today our flag flies at half-staff in tribute to a woman who spent her life showing the world what kindness, generosity, joy, and using what you've been given to help others can look like.

It's a small gesture for someone who meant so much to me, but seeing it when I came home meant more than JJ probably knows.

And soon, that flagpole will be surrounded by butterflies. 🦋🩷 I can't think of a more fitting little tribute. I think Dolly would like that.

May we all carry a little of her goodness forward.

I knew this day would come someday. I just wasn't ready for it to be today.💔

I am genuinely heartbroken over the loss of Dolly Parton.

And I know that may sound strange to some people. I didn't know her. She certainly didn't know me. But the people who know me know how much I have always loved her. In fact, I've already had friends texting me condolences today because they know.

But it was never just her music.

I loved who Dolly chose to be in this world.

She came from very little and built an extraordinary life, but she never seemed to forget the people who were still struggling.

She was wildly successful without becoming hardened by success. She was funny and joyful and unapologetically herself.

She believed in education.
She put books into the hands of children. She gave generously.
She lifted people up.
She made people laugh.

And somehow, in a world that constantly tries to convince us that kindness is weakness, Dolly made goodness look powerful.

She was proof that you could be ambitious and generous.
Successful and humble.
Strong and tenderhearted.

You could shine brightly without needing to dim anyone else's light.

Maybe that's why this one hurts so much.

So tonight, I don't just want to say goodbye to Dolly Parton.

I want to challenge myself, and anyone else who loved what she stood for, to carry a little bit of Dolly forward.

Give when you can.
Help somebody who can't do anything for you in return.

Put a book in a child's hands.
Make somebody laugh.
Be kind when it would be easier not to be.
Dream bigger than your circumstances.
Love people.

And for heaven's sake, don't spend your life trying to become less of yourself just to make other people comfortable.

If enough of us carry a little of that spirit with us, maybe someone like Dolly never entirely leaves this world.

The world is a little less sparkly today.

So I suppose it's up to the rest of us to add some back. 🩷

Rest well, Dolly.
I will always love you. 🩷

So apparently Charlotte has retired to Thousand Oaks. 🕷️😂

First, I find a praying mantis today. Now I find THIS LADY casually hanging out at the farm looking like she pays property taxes.

And for scale, THAT IS JJ'S HAND. 😳

Because apparently marriage means occasionally volunteering your husband for spider-related scientific research.

I, meanwhile, was safely several feet away taking the picture because I have survival instincts.

Basically, I sent JJ in as tribute. 😂

She is a Yellow Garden Spider, also known as a Writing Spider, and despite looking like she could carry off a small child, she's actually one of the good guys. She eats all kinds of insects we don't want and is generally harmless to humans.

And YES, I immediately wondered if this was Charlotte from Charlotte's Web. 😂

Technically, Charlotte was a barn spider.
But this one is literally called a WRITING SPIDER, so I refuse to let facts ruin this for me.

I'm checking her web tomorrow.

If it says SOME PIG, I'm moving. 😂🕷️
JJ can have the farm. 🕷️

Apparently, Thousand Oaks has hired a new employee.

I did not interview her.
I did not approve her application.
And frankly, her customer service skills are concerning. 😂

I walked up and found THIS staring at me like I owed her money.😳

After briefly wondering if she was, in fact, going to eat my face off, I have learned that our new employee is actually a pretty fantastic little farmhand. Praying mantises eat grasshoppers, moths, beetles, caterpillars and all kinds of other critters that would rather eat the farm before we can harvest it.

So... she can stay.💁🏽‍♀️

Name: TBD
Position: Pest Control & Intimidation
Salary: All the bugs she can eat
Management style: Aggressive

Likelihood I'm going to touch her: Absolutely zero. 😂

Welcome to the team, ma'am. Please keep your weird little velociraptor arms to yourself.😉

I have been keeping a little secret since January 4, 2026. 🤎

On that day, I tucked vanilla beans into bourbon, put the bottles away, and started one of the hardest projects for an impatient person like me...

Waiting. 😂🤷🏽‍♀️

For more than seven months, those vanilla beans have just been quietly doing their thing, turning that bourbon into the most beautiful, dark homemade vanilla.

And y'all... I am ridiculously excited about it. 😍

Now, before anybody asks when it will be at the farmstand, I did my homework. Because of the alcohol content, homemade vanilla isn't something I can legally sell under Arkansas' homemade food rules.

Rude. 😂

But that doesn't make me one bit less excited about making it.🤷🏽‍♀️

So these little bottles may just keep aging until Christmas and become gifts for some very lucky people. By then, they'll have been steeping for almost an entire YEAR. 🎁

There's something I love about making something that can't be rushed. Beans, bourbon, time. That's it.

And apparently a whole lot of patience. 🤎🩷

When life gives you lemons… harvest lemon basil and make salt! 🍋🌿

Introducing our newest little farmstand creation: Lemon Basil Salt, made with lemon basil grown right here at Thousand Oaks.

This bright, herby finishing salt can add a little summertime flavor to just about anything:
🍗 Chicken, pork, fish or shrimp
🥔 Roasted potatoes and vegetables
🍅 Fresh tomatoes, cucumbers and corn
🍳 Eggs and avocado toast
🍝 Pasta, rice and salads
🍿 Popcorn
🥖 Bread dipped in olive oil
🥗 Homemade dressings and marinades
🍉 Fresh watermelon
🍸 And the rim of your favorite cocktail—think margaritas, Bloody Marys or a lemony vodka drink!

Each small jar is topped with a wooden lid, tied with jute and finished with a sprig of dried lemon basil—pretty enough to give as a gift… if you can bring yourself to part with it. 🩷

This is a very small first batch, and I have a feeling these won’t last long!

We’ll be open Saturday from 9 a.m.–noon.
What would you sprinkle—or sip—it with first? 😍

Apparently, summer has completely lost her manners. 🥵

With the heat cranking back up again this weekend, we’re going to keep the same shortened hours as last weekend:
🌸 Friday: CLOSED
🌸 Saturday: OPEN 9:00 a.m.–Noon
🌸 Sunday: CLOSED

Come early to pick flowers and shop the farmstand for fresh bread, jellies, cookies, eggs, and other fun finds! Then we’ll all retreat before the afternoon sun turns downright disrespectful. 😂

The shortened weekend will also give us some much-needed time to tend to the flowers and continue cleaning up the wind damage around the farm.

We’ll be ready to welcome you—and very grateful to see you. 🩷

We've shown you the storm.
What we haven't really shown you yet is what it left behind.

And I think it's time.

The flowers took the hardest hit.

Rows that were standing tall Monday afternoon are now bent, twisted, broken or completely flattened. We've walked through them, stood some back up, looked at what might recover and tried very hard not to make decisions while everything still looks its worst.

The vegetables surprised us.
They fared much better overall.

And the okra?
Of course the okra is still standing. 😂 Apparently it has survived Arkansas summer and decided a severe storm wasn't going to be the thing that took it out.

But the question we've been asking ourselves is a much bigger one:
What does this mean for the rest of our season?

And right now...
we honestly don't know.
Some of the flowers may recover.
Some won't.
There are still beautiful blooms out there among the damage.

There is still food growing.

But there's also a lot of cleanup ahead, and we're trying to determine what makes sense to save, what needs to come out, and whether there's enough season left to start over in some places.

So we're giving the farm a few days before we make any big decisions.

Maybe this storm changed the ending of our 2026 season.

Maybe it just changed the next chapter.

We don't know yet.

And I think that's important to say.

Because you've watched this farm through the beautiful parts this year. The first blooms. The harvests. The full farm stand. The bouquets leaving in people's arms.
This is part of growing things, too.

So for now, we're going to keep assessing, keep harvesting what is good, give the plants that can recover a chance to surprise us...
and figure out what comes next.

We'll take you along with us. 🩷🌻

Did anybody else’s grandparents always have a bottle of vinegar with peppers in it sitting on the kitchen table?

Usually somewhere near the salt and pepper… and that little plastic container of liquid Sweet’N Low. 😂

At Mammaw and Papaw’s house, that pepper sauce was just there. Always.

Greens? Pepper sauce.
Beans? Pepper sauce.
Something needed a little extra flavor? Pass the pepper sauce.🌶️

It wasn’t fancy. Just cayenne peppers tucked into a bottle and covered with vinegar. But somehow, that little bottle on the table is wrapped up in some of my favorite memories of meals at Mammaw and Papaw’s house.

And my Mammaw, Lillie Mae, was one of my favorite people on the entire planet. 🩷

So when the cayenne peppers started coming in at the farm, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with some of them.
Nostalgia made me do it.

I made Lillie Mae’s Pepper Sauce, named for my Mammaw and made just the way I remembered it (and after consulting with my mom and Aunt Betty Sue 🩷): peppers, vinegar, and a whole lot of memories.

And soon, there’ll be a little bottle sitting at the farmstand waiting for somebody else’s pot of greens. 🌶️

Tell me I’m not the only one… did your grandparents have a bottle of pepper sauce on the table, too?
