Many people have been asking what LADA is and why Ryan has become sick so quickly. We wanted to share a little information to help spread awareness ❤️

LADA stands for Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults. It is a form of autoimmune diabetes that is often called “Type 1.5 diabetes” because it shares traits of both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. Unlike Type 2 diabetes, LADA happens when the immune system attacks the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas.

Over time, the pancreas slowly loses the ability to produce insulin, which can lead to serious and life-threatening complications if not properly managed.

Some of the symptoms and health risks can include:
⚠️ Extreme fatigue
⚠️ Brain fog
⚠️ Irritability
⚠️ Depression & mood changes
⚠️ Rapid weight loss
⚠️ Constant thirst & dehydration
⚠️ High blood sugar levels
⚠️ Vision changes
⚠️ Nerve damage
⚠️ Increased risk of infections
⚠️ Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) — a dangerous medical emergency
⚠️ Organ damage if blood sugars remain uncontrolled

LADA is often misdiagnosed at first because it develops more slowly than traditional Type 1 diabetes. Many adults are initially told they have Type 2 diabetes before discovering it is actually autoimmune-related.

Ryan has been facing health complications related to LADA, and we truly appreciate everyone who has reached out, shared kind words, supported our family, and helped spread awareness.

Running The Ghost Roast has been such a huge part of our lives, and seeing so many people reach out with encouragement and compassion has been incredibly comforting.

Tomorrow is the final day our storefront will be open, and we’ll be here from 8AM–4PM! We truly hope to see everyone one last time before we close this chapter. 👻☕️
