The summer solstice marks the “official”beginning of summer and the longest day of the year. Sunlight will slowly go from an over abundant resource to a precious one. We are smack dab in the middle of our summer growing season here in Springtown, Texas so with the melancholy of shortening days there comes a second wave of vitality in this farmer. The last couple weeks have seen continued drought, water restrictions, a veritable plague of grasshoppers, seedling eating bunnies. (Raccoons, a copperhead, a black widow- none of which affected the flowers but certainly have challenged me in other ways). Nothing about this is easy. Everything about this has been worth it.

Tonight we hand pick grasshoppers! We will collect them and the chickens will feast! We will net the seedlings! We will feel despair! It will move through us to be replaced with gratitude and fortitude! We recognize the lesson in resilience!

Everything is a season.

So get it while it’s hot ☀️

Thank you for supporting our first season as Flock & Flower Farm!
