I’m working on getting my show entries filled out and decisions made as to what birds are going. I’m definitely cutting back this year! I think I’m going to focus on the APA accepted breeds only; unless I know someone is attending that has the same non-accepted breeds- like the Iowa Blue, Russian Orloff, & Penedesenca (or others). It’s no fun if there’s no competition. And frankly it becomes a waste of money. I love showing off the rare & endangered breeds, but funds are a bit tighter right now, so cuts have to be made. I’m taking about half the number of birds so far than what I would normally take.
I’ll probably do a bigger showing at the Fort Worth stock show since it’s so close. That’s like my Alma mater show. That was the first one I showed at years ago.
So if anyone is going to be attending shows and would like a bit of competition (really I just need the comparisons); let me know and I’ll bring the others. So far I’m bringing the Houdan & Faverolles.

I finally got a Tolbunt this week. I’ll be keeping the first few chicks this fall, but I will have them available soon. This pen can hatch both the Tolbunt or the Golden split to mottled. So I won’t know exactly what I have until they hatch.

Today’s hatch of Frabjious Frizzle. Looks like I’m going to have ermine in this group. Yay!!!

My evening started with trying to get photos of the Penedesenca. I’m missing a few in my app and without catching birds, it can be difficult to identify who is who exactly. My trick is to snag whatever photos I can and then zoom in on the leg bands 😂. This isn’t everyone, but I think I have pictures of each of them in the app at least.

One of my original Turquoise Gem. I didn’t keep any from this past season, but did get one of my cockerels back. He is the sire to this year’s Turquoise Gem pen. This though is a hen. She’s mid molt, so doesn’t look great, but she’s one of the butchiest looking hens I’ve ever seen. 😂 She’s one of those birds that would have you guessing - pullet or cockerel- for quite a while.

These are most of the Olive Eggers. The frizzled hens are in the Frabjious Frizzle pen with an ermine Ameraucana. The smooth feathered ones are in the Turquoise Gem pen with frizzled males (all cockbirds are tested homozygous blue egg genes).
I laugh when people say their Olive Egger doesn’t look like what they expect an OE to look like. Have you seen mine? Mine look nothing like what you’d expect from a breeding (though some people might be able to pick out the Penedesenca or Legbar breeding).
